Michigan Avenue, Lansing, MI General Summary of Function/Purpose of Position This advanced level, specialist consultant works with the division, bureau and department staffs and community partners to advance institutional environmental change and policies that advance the achievement of health equity and the elimination of health disparities in the maternal child health population. Primary duties are to: 1) lead collaborative processes to develop, implement and monitor health equity promotion and life course perspective to eliminate health disparities across maternal child health programs and functions; 2) develop, coordinate, arrange and implement division staff health equity orientations and trainings to achieve health equity and eliminate racial and ethnic disparities; and 3) responsible for health equity promotion and health disparity reduction project management. This consultant fosters and maintains relationships with local, state and national health equity/disparity reduction practitioners and experts, as well as being aware of emerging principles and practices of health equity promotion. General Summary of Duty 1 % of Time 40% Leads collaborative processes to develop, implement and monitor health equity promotion and life course perspective to eliminate health disparity across maternal child health programs and functions. Develops, implements and monitor work plan development. Collaboratively design approaches to address health disparities experienced by racial and ethnic groups, and work with division and bureau staff, Minority Health and Health Disparities Section, and other cross department teams working to promote health equity and address health disparities. Consults with division units and staff to develop approaches and plans, monitor progress of implementation and outcomes. Promotes and manages institutionalization of life course theory, health and racial equity tools into public health practice. Consults and collaborates with state and national experts in health equity promotion and addressing institutional racism. Supports and updates division, bureau and departments equity plans and promotion efforts. Leads collaborate development of policies and procedures related to health equity promotion. Collaborates and coordinates the designing of data and evaluation measures for attaining health equity and health disparity reduction goals and objectives. Duty 2 General Summary of Duty 2 % of Time 30% Develops, coordinates, arranges and implements health equity orientations and trainings for division staff to support Michigan s goal to achieve health equity and eliminate racial and ethnic disparities. Consults with, serves as an expert resource and provide technical assistance to division and bureau administrators, managers and staff regarding health equity and the elimination of racial and ethnic disparities. Provides, develops and/or arranges equity trainings for personnel. Prepares and delivers presentations. Maintains collaborative relationships with local, department, and national experts. Stays in touch with the emerging principles and practice of health equity promotion. Page 2

3 Duty 3 General Summary of Duty 3 % of Time 20% Develops and monitors initiatives budgets, agreements, request for proposals, and provide proper oversight for the use of allocated resources. Prepare grant proposals, and oversee and monitor grant funded operations required with any involved managers and administrators. Monitor grant project tasks to assure completion and/or revisions as need to ensure high quality project outcomes. Participates and consults in project research, surveillance, data analysis, studies and evaluations. Develops reports; prepares and delivers presentations; and maintain, manage and enhance the health equity website. Maintains projects and initiatives documents, records and reports. Keeps management and administration informed of projects and initiatives status. Adapts to a continuously changing environment, managing multiple tasks, while working with a wide variety of stakeholders and various staff. Duty 4 General Summary of Duty 4 % of Time 10% Other duties as assigned. Participates in division and bureau meetings and trainings. The Health Equity and Perinatal Health Unit is responsible for the department s efforts to address the health and service needs of the maternal, perinatal, and maternal child health population.
