1 C o m p e t i t i o n E n t r y R u l e s Audi Autonomous Driving Cup 2018 AUDI AG Ingolstadt, Germany 1. What is the AADC all about? The Audi Autonomous Driving Cup (hereinafter AADC ) is an autonomous driving competition in which miniature models of Audi series development vehicles, on a scale of 1:8 (hereinafter AADC model vehicle ), compete at Audi in specific disciplines (e.g. remaining in lane, parking, emergency braking, giving way to other traffic, map/cloud-based functions and artificial intelligence, etc.). The best AADC model vehicle, as chosen by a jury of Audi experts, will win the competition. Further information on the AADC can be found on our website at 2. Who can take part? How can I apply? Are you - an undergraduate or postgraduate student at a university in the European Union and familiar with autonomous robotics (e.g. in the disciplines of IT, robotics, electrical engineering or electronics), - not an employee of AUDI AG or of another company within the VW Group, - of full legal age and - keen to try out creative ideas with the sensor technology of an AADC model vehicle? If so, demonstrate your technical skills and improve the driving behaviour of the AADC model vehicle using your own software and algorithms. You can only apply as a member of a student team. There is no entitlement to participation in the AADC competition. The organiser s decision is final. Further details about applying and about the team selection process can be found in the AADC Rulebook (see Version 1.0, 16 April / 6

2 You must include with your application documents a single current photo of yourself, a photo of your team and a description of both you and your team. 3. How do you receive an AADC model vehicle, and what features will it have? A jury of Audi experts will first assess the applications received. On this basis, ten student teams will be nominated to take part in the competition. We will loan two AADC model vehicles, including the installed hardware and software, and two non-commercial developer licences for the Automotive Data and Time-Triggered Framework (ADTF) software to each team free of charge in accordance with these Competition Entry Rules and the AADC Rulebook (see Further details about the features of the AADC model vehicles in particular can be found in the AADC Rulebook. Please understand that you must use an AADC model vehicle supplied by us to take part in the competition so that we can compare the teams nominated. 4. Additional participants For AADC 2018, student teams who have not been nominated by the jury of Audi experts after applying may still be able to register to take part. The following rules apply: The teams must register with the jury of Audi experts no later than three weeks after the nominations have been announced, i.e. by Friday, 25 May The teams must procure the model vehicles including the ADTF development software themselves at their own expense. These must have the same setup as the model vehicles provided for the nominated teams. A jury of Audi experts will check this prior to the qualifying stage and will then decide whether to allow the teams to take part in the qualifying stage. All costs incurred (e.g. travel/accommodation for the kick-off, travel/accommodation for the test event/qualifying) must be borne by these teams themselves. They will then take part in the qualifying stage together with the nominated teams. If a team from among these additional participants is successful in qualifying, it will be invited to the final on equal terms. Version 1.0, 16 April / 6

3 5. What obligations will you have after you have received the AADC model vehicle? The vehicle will enable you to access its hardware and software functions via a userfriendly technical interface. For comparability reasons, only this interface may be used for competition vehicles. In principle, you may enhance it with your own ideas, but this will require the approval of the other competition participants and the enhancement will then be available to all participants. In addition to the statutory provisions relating to the loaned vehicle (cf. sections 598 ff. German Civil Code [BGB]), the following obligations will apply to you: At the end of the competition, you must return the AADC model vehicle in the same condition in which it was provided to you, aside from normal signs of use. You will have no right of retention. Please handle the AADC model vehicle with care and use it only for the purpose described in these Competition Entry Rules and the AADC Rulebook; neither the model vehicle nor the software may be made available to third parties. You must not use the AADC model vehicle on public roads. In all other respects, you must comply with the obligations set out in the AADC Rulebook. 6. What can you do with the hardware and software installed in the AADC model vehicle? What about the ADTF software which will be supplied separately? Hardware and software of the model vehicle You must not modify the hardware or software that has been installed directly in the AADC model vehicle or use it for other vehicles. ADTF You may use the Automotive Data and Time-Triggered Framework (ADTF) software to turn your ideas into software applications and functions that influence and, if applicable, improve the driving behaviour of the AADC model vehicle in line with the specific disciplines of the AADC competition. You may only use the software for non-commercial development purposes and exclusively in connection with the AADC competition. You must not reproduce, disseminate, publicly display or demonstrate the ADTF software either online or offline, or commercially exploit it. You are also prohibited from modifying, decompiling or reassembling the ADTF software or from making any other kind of changes to it. You must not copy or otherwise reproduce the ADTF software or pass it on to third parties. The right to use the ADTF software for the aforementioned purposes is limited in time to the duration of the AADC competition (preparatory/development phase + actual competition). Open source software Version 1.0, 16 April / 6

4 The software in the AADC model vehicle contains components of open source software, most notably Linux as the operating system. The ADTF software also contains components of open source software. A list of the third-party components contained in the software, especially open source software, can be found on the data carrier supplied to you with the AADC model vehicle. This also includes the source code of the Linux kernel. With regard to the third-party components contained in the software, particularly open source software, the copyright rests with the respective developers of the third-party component concerned. For software components under an open source licence, which must be disseminated free of charge, the relevant licensing terms of these components apply. 7. Evaluation The final tournament of the AADC will take place between November 12 th and 14 th. The test event with qualifying is schedules between October 9 th and 11 th. After the qualifying eight teams are qualified for the final tournament. An Audi jury decides which team is nominated for the final tournament. The tournament consists of three parts, the autonomous driving in the obstacle parcours, a free presentation called open challenge and a academic lecture. An Audi jury judges all the teams to find the best three teams. In the final these teams have to compete each other by driving another obstacle parcours. The jury s evaluation criteria can be divided into the following 3 criteria: clean autonomous driving without touching obstacles like specified in the rulebook quality of approaches in the academic lecture quality of the idea and the technical implementation in the free presentation The exact evaluation criteria and their weighting will be explained and communicated by organiser and Competition Committee during the kick-off event of the competition and will be clearly available throughout the entire event. Any legal claim to the award of any prizes is explicitly excluded. Upon submission of any prizes to one member of a team this also discharges AUDI AG against all other members of the team. All team members are responsible on their own for any possible taxes and expenses. 8. What rights will we have against you, and how will we be liable to you? Irrespective of our entitlement to receive the model vehicle back from you at the end of the competition (cf. No. 5), we can terminate the loan contract concluded with you and demand that you return the AADC model vehicle and the software supplied. Version 1.0, 16 April / 6
