1 , Executive Vice President, Member Networks Washington, D.C. About ULI The Urban Land Institute is the preeminent multidisciplinary real estate organization, facilitating the open exchange of ideas, knowledge and experience among local, national and international industry leaders and policymakers dedicated to creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide. Structured as a 501(c) (3), nonprofit, member-driven research and education organization, the Institute has more than 40,000 global members representing the entire spectrum of land use and real estate development disciplines, both in private enterprise and public service. ULI uniquely benefits its members and their communities by leveraging members collective intellectual capital and diverse on-the-ground experience. Members include real estate developers, builders and owners, finance and investment professionals, auditors and accountants, brokers and consultants, attorneys, architects, engineers, urban planners, public officials, quasi-public economic development agency executives, and academicians. For, and through, these diverse member constituents, ULI provides various educational programs, publications, forums and meetings, applied research, instructional modules, and advisory services. The strength and value of the ULI member experience is tied to connections made among members at all levels, through ULI s networks, demographic and affinity groups, content and knowledge centers, advisory services and technical assistance panels, and other key elements of ULI s program of work. The Institute s culture and evolving practices focus increasingly on facilitating greater connections through technology and the open source creation, curation, and sharing of expertise, knowledge and content by ULI members. ULI delivers its mission by inspiring, informing, and mobilizing its membership to improve the practices and policies that drive effective land use and urban development, and sharing their expertise with the communities ULI and its members serve. In theory and in practice, ULI is the sum of its members, who themselves deliver the ULI mission, positively shaping the future of real estate practice and land use disciplines and leading the development of a built environment that better serves more people. The work of ULI centers around five Pillars or primary areas of programmatic emphasis: housing and communities, real estate investment and finance, sustainability, building successful cities and regions, and the practice of real estate development. For more about ULI, including a full list of employee benefits please, visit The New Strategic Plan for the Americas As ULI embarks on its ninth decade as a leading member-lead real estate education and research institution, it is focused on renewal -- investing more in its members development and engagement, advancing its mission by involving more members in delivering the mission, and creating more impact in the communities where members live, work, and serve. Accordingly, ULI has committed itself to:

2 Delivering, through its members, more of its mission of helping create and sustain thriving communities and influencing built environments that better serve more people; Increasing the measurable impact that the Institute, through its members, has on the communities served by members; and Sustaining itself as the leading multi-disciplinary land use and real estate organization and cultivating the professional development of a broad and diverse cross-section of ULI members. Member development, member engagement, and member impact are the touchstones of the new Strategic Plan for the Americas. ULI s Member Networks ULI s Americas Region, the largest of the Institute s three global regions that include Europe and Asia, is organized around 57 location-based district councils and nearly the same number of product councils. Through the exchange of information and sharing of best practices, these councils offer industry leaders vital opportunities to network, and advance thought-leadership and the ULI mission. The new Strategic Plan for the Americas contemplates that ULI s member networks will play a prominent role in increasing member development, engagement, and impact and connecting ULI members to each other, as well as to content, knowledge, programs and activities across the entire ULI platform. Product councils focus on more than 30 real estate-related subjects, each of which substantially impacts the ability of the real estate industry and related sectors to advance the responsible use of land and quality of the built environment. These subjects also reflect ULI members interests and expertise. ULI s product councils provide a forum for convening many of the thought and practice leaders within the real estate and related industries. Participation in ULI product councils is highly valued and because of the increased demand for opportunities to serve on these councils, ULI is expanding its offerings by creating new product councils in emerging areas of interest to members, while also adding new flights to existing product councils. District councils sponsor programs that include locally produced content. These councils also access and leverage content created and curated in ULI s knowledge centers, as well as from elsewhere within the ULI networks, including other district councils, national product councils, and ULI demographic and affinity groups. District councils convene member-lead Technical Assistance Panels ( TAPs ). Through TAPs and ULI s Advisory Services Program, an Americas-based program similar to TAPs -- ULI members volunteer their time and expertise to help communities find practical solutions to the most vexing planning, development, financing, and re-use issues. Additionally, ULI members serve as instructors for UrbanPlan, a classroom-based simulation exercise where students address challenging real-world development issues while responding to Requests for Proposal ( RFP ) on hypothetical urban development projects. District councils also provide a platform for advancing ULI s demographic and affinity groups, as well as the Institute s evolving diversity and inclusion priorities. The Women s Leadership Initiative ( WLI ), NEXT (ULI members years old) and the Young Leaders Group ( YLG, ULI members under 35) affinity and demographic groups convene locally through the district councils. As key components of the ULI networks, they are important (and necessary) vehicles for achieving the objectives of the new Strategic Plan.
