5 What is Mentorship? Mentoring is an interactive learning and educational experience, provided to students to assist them in their personal and career development. The Mentoring Partnership Each mentoring relationship involves two people to facilitate an exchange of business experience, knowledge, expertise and career advice. A mentorship pair consists of a mentor (graduate) and mentee (student). Your Mentor The mentor acts as a role model for the student and shares his/her personal and business experience and guidance. Benefits Mentorship is designed to help you make contacts in the business community and to provide you with an opportunity to enhance your professional skills outside of the lecture hall. 4

6 Testimonials The Mentorship Programme is inspirational and gives me the motivation to start my own business and look forward to a brighter future Lynette O Hara, Student Mentee My mentor was a huge help to me throughout the year, meeting with me on a number of occasions and sharing his many insights which helped me focus on building my journalism portfolio. He arranged a week s work experience for me at the Irish Daily Star. I gained hugely in confidence talking with staff at the newspaper s office, as well as with Fleetwood Mac, whom I got to interview during my time there. I was also lucky enough to be awarded Journalist of the Year (National Press) at the National Student Media Awards as a result of contributions I made to the paper while there Sarah Bermingham, Student Mentee Thoroughly enjoyed the whole learning experience having a platform to transfer knowledge and practical soft and hard skills to my mentee and the metric for me is that he has already used these new found skills in real life situations and they will also compliment his course content. The learning was a two way street. We still keep in touch Gerard Fleming, Graduate Mentor 5
