8 GENERAL INFORMATION HOW TO REGISTER There are three ways to register: ONLINE Go to and click on trainng and events From here you can search for any courses of interest and register electronically. PHONE Call (NZ) / (AU) We will put you through to the appropriate Portfolio Manager, who will help you register. Get in touch at: learn@ema.co.nz Simply your details (full name, company, phone) with the course name and date and we will register you. You will be contacted to confirm your registration has been processed. DIFFERENT TRAINING OPTIONS Our training sessions are reffered to as: Courses: the majority of our training are courses, done in 1/2 day, 1 or 2 day sessions. Programmes: consist of modules of training. Webinars: Webinars are live, interactive sessions presented by a subject matter expert. The presenter uses the webinar platform to deliver and share presentations, documents and hold interactive Q&A s with participants. Online: These are self-directed web-based courses you complete at your own pace. They are developed using the latest elearning technologies and are interactive and engaging but without a live presenter. Standard training session hours: ½ day: these run either 9.00am pm or 1.00pm pm Full day: these run 9.00am pm Our training courses are designed to cater for varying business needs. If your business has specific organizational requirements, please contact us to discuss the possibilities. FEES AND VALUE Early Bird Rate is for EMA members who register one month prior to the course start date. Fees are detailed within each course description. They include: Full course resource manual including associated resources, Classroom facilitation, Marking of assignments and assessments Daily lunch and refreshments (as appropriate), Networking. EMA member businesses are offered a special discount on fees, additionally they get extra services for free: Assessment of the Unit Standard detailed within each course where one applies. Assessment of further NQF Unit Standards will attract a fee (see page 16). COURSE NUMBERS MAXIMUM Places are restricted to ensure high delivery standards. We have a maximum ratio of one trainer to 20 participants, which allows everyone to become fully involved in the training and achieve course aims. MINIMUM If a course fails to attract the minimum number of four participants, we reserve the right to cancel. If that happens, we offer the following alternative arrangements at the time of cancellation: Transfer to the next available course within the region or Auckland, An in-house, one-on-one, two hour session for the same price as the course fee. ON THE DAY REGISTRATION Please allow yourself time to unwind and enjoy a pre-training coffee. Registration opens 30 minutes before the course starts. PARKING We do our best to ensure you can easily park near your training. When you register we will send you all details and instructions for parking. 14

9 CERTIFICATION AN EMA CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDANCE This is provided when you attend a workshop or course. Certificates of Attendance can be provided for other EMA events attended upon request. PARTICIPANT SUPPORT If you are having difficulty with any aspects of your training or course assignments, discuss your concerns with your tutor in the first instance. If your tutor is unable to help they will refer you to appropriate people either within or outside the organization. Questions and queries about assessments can be forwarded to assessment@ema.co.nz. COMPLAINTS PROCEDURES For complaints about EMA Learning or one of our staff, please follow this process: 1. Raise it with the tutor/staff member concerned or us: quality@ema.co.nz 2. If it is not resolved contact the EMA Learning Manager (09) If you are still dissatisfied contact: New Zealand Qualifications Authority, P O Box 160, Wellington. Alternatively phone or helpdesk@nzqa.govt.nz APPEALS PROCEDURES If you are unhappy with any aspect of the assessment process please follow this process: 1. Share your concerns with your assessor 2. Talk to the EMA Quality Assurance Manager (09) or contact quality@ema.co.nz 3. If you re still not satisfied, discuss your concerns with the EMA Learning Manger (09) If you still have concerns, contact the relevant Industry Training Organisation, National Standards Board or Advisory Group If you have a question about quality, please contact quality@ema.co.nz. NZQA ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS FREE ASSESSMENT FOR EMA MEMBERS After attending a training couse, and considering your current skills and work experience, you may wish to complete the assessment towards a unit standard. Assessment isn t compulsory and there is no additional fee for EMA Members. Please note this is done where applicable - being that the unit standards are related to the courses learning outcomes. Each module provides practical and theoretical learning to complement the existing knowledge you use in your daily work. To take advantage of this FREE Unit Standards Assessment, please contact EMA Learning through assessment@ema. co.nz. you will need to complete assessments in your own time and they may involve direct application of learning in the context of your own workplaces. To help you make your decision, you ll find the Unit Standards have been specified under the descriptions for individual EMA courses and workshops. On the day of the training, each course manual then tells you how to apply for Unit Standards Assessment. Also listed are other closely related Unit Standards for which you may feel you already have the skills and knowledge. If you wish to be assessed against any of the additional Unit Standards, refer to Additional Unit Standard Assessment and Recognition of Current Competence (RCC) below. NON-MEMBER CHARGES If your organisation is not an EMA Member, payments are due to cover the formal Unit Standard Assessment. To Cover administration and processing, a payment of $100 (+ GST) will apply. Also, NZQA s charge of $1.37 (+ GST) per Unit Standard will also be payable. See how to apply for this service below. ADDITIONAL UNIT STANDARD ASSESSMENT AND RECOGNITON OF CURRENT COMPETENCE (RCC) If you think you already have skills and knowledge in a particular area and wish to be considered for prior recognition in a Unit Standard Assessment, the EMA has a Recognition of Current Competence (RCC) procedure. You will need to show clear evidence that you have a competent grasp of the discipline or industry aspect. In most cases, this will involve you completing the assessment pack and collecting workplace evidence to demonstrate competence. This service costs $100 (+ GST) plus NZQA s $1.37 (+ GST) per Unit Standard Credit and applies to both Members and Non-Members of the EMA. To apply for this service: Obtain the latest version of the Unit Standard in which you want to claim competence and check the elements and performance criteria. This is available at govt.nz Go to the EMA Learning website ( and download an RCC application form Once completed, send your form to assessment@ema.co.nz You will be issued with a user name and password to access the Unit Standard Assessment Pack. 16

10 CREDIT TRANSFER If you have already undertaken studies, either with EMA Learning or another institution, you may be able to put this towards your new qualification. If you want to transfer gained Unit Standards from previously registered Unit Standards with NZQA, you will need to produce your NZQA Record of Learning. If you want to transfer credits from another training provider (e.g. Massey University), please deal directly with that provider. If in doubt, ask your tutor, or contact EMA Learning through CANCELLATIONS POLICY If you need to cancel your course, we require five clear working days notice so that we can approve a refund, less the 10% administration fee, or transfer you to another course. If you are unable to give such notice, we would be happy for you to arrange for another person to attend on the day. If you are unable to give us five clear working days notice, full course fees are payable and refunds will not be given. In addition, registrations that are cancelled with less than five working days notice will not be eligible for a transfer to another date. Should a course fail to attract a minimum number of participants, we reserve the right to cancel it. PRIVATE TRAINING ESTABLISHMENT EMA Training is registered by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) as a Private Training Establishment under the Education Act 1989 and its subsequent amendments. EMA Training is a unit within EMA Learning. We provide education, training and assessment in a variety of domains on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF). The accreditation within these domains allows EMA Learning to assess participants against NZQA Unit Standards, up to Level 6 in some domains. CONSUMER LEGISLATION The information in this Training Directory is provided for EMA Members solely for business purposes. Any use of this information, or the courses offered, will be for business purposes, at the sole discretion, responsibility and judgement of the users. Here are a number of options you might like to try: ACCELERATE SUCCESS The Accelerate Success programme helps business owners who are serious about investing in business growth. The programme is run by Regional Business Partners, which were set up by New Zealand Trade & Enterprise (NZTE) and Callaghan Innovation to be local hubs of business development expertise and research and development expertise. Through Accelerate Success, Regional Partners offer an assessment service which helps you prioritise training and development needs and points to any support which might be available from the public or private sectors. If you re looking to take your small business to the next level with a new product or phase, they re the people you ought to talk to. NZTE CAPABILITY DEVELOPMENT VOUCHERS After a business has met with a Regional Business Partner and undergone a capability assessment, the Regional Business Partner may advise that key management staff invest their time in specific training. In some cases, businesses are provided with an NZTE Capability Development Voucher to use as a partial payment towards the cost of training and business development services. The value of vouchers issued will vary and they can be used to cover up to 50% of the full cost of the service fee up to a maximum value set by the issuing Regional Business Partner. The maximum amount a business can receive in one year is $5,000 excluding GST. EMA is a registered service provider with excellent training opportunities under the Capability Development scheme.
