Format for the Project This semester you will have a country to examine (disbursed from a class list, with Instructor approval). As the semester progresses you will complete various research assignments, each focused on your country. Since each member of the class will have a different country, we will have the opportunity to explore the details of many countries. You will complete a Country Business Profile. Please remember that certificates become part or your college transcript (level II and level III), and may be very helpful to your vocational interests while you continue to work toward your academic goals.

3 This is a traditional classroom class all of our contact will take place in the classroom setting. We will utilize Internet-enabled computers in the classroom to complete appropriate research. Points/ Grading Criteria Tests Three (3) Exams worth 0 points each (lowest test score will be dropped) = 200 Points 25% One (1) Final Exam must take to pass the course = 0 Points 12% Class Participation One Project (on-line papers worth 0 points) Research done in class paper submitted on-line Activities Video reviews, exam prep, and other activities completed in class for points (20 points each) No make-ups. Points for Exam Prep Sheets awarded only when covered on the morning due. Total activity points estimated at 400 points (add to 400 for new total possible) Extra Credit TOTAL POSSIBLE POINTS = = 0 Points 13% = Approx 50% Points Vary e.g., 400 pts. Approx. 800 points = Up to 20 Points added Extra credit earned by presenting portions of the Country Business Profile for your assigned country. Present details on Political System, Key Industries, Business Appointments, Business Dress, Conversation topics and Gift Giving. Extra credit should take about 3 5 minutes, and will earn points as follows: Extra Credit Points: If participation % >=80% = 20 pts; if participation % < 80% and >=70% = pts; if participation % < 70% no extra credit points will be awarded [participation % at end of semester will be used for extra credit point awards] Grading Check your grade at: 90% to 0% = A 80% to 89% = B 70% to 79% = C 60% to 69% = D NO make-ups for tests or class participation points Timely participation in this class will be very important, as points are attached to activities. The project and exams will be completed per the schedule that follows. The lowest exam score (of the first three exams) will be dropped. Because of this, there will be no make-up exams - an exam missed will be considered your lowest test score and will be dropped. The final exam must be taken to pass this course. If you miss a class activity there is no point make up. Punctual class attendance is important. The instructor may drop if 9 instructional hours are missed (this is the equivalent of six classes/ activities/ exams). If you miss 20% or more of the class (this is the equivalent of eight classes/ activities/ exams) you may receive an F for the course, regardless of test scores (per the California Education Code).

This course has interwoven the following three (3) expected student learning outcomes: 1. You will be able to identify how governments influence trade. 2. You will be able to explain the differences between domestic business and international business. 3. You will be able to explain how culture impacts international business. Plagiarism (do not copy word for word from other works (web sites, etc.) Please understand that Plagiarism will result in zero points for a project, and possible failure of the class. For your projects, please put things into your own words. Cheating and other forms of academic dishonesty may result in a failing grade for the course.

5 Country Business Profile Project This project has been designed to help you gain a perspective on what is involved when doing business with your assigned country. We will be using a wide array of data sources that span nine elements: 1. Economy 2. Political Systems 3. Key Industries 4. Business Appointments (meetings) 5. Negotiating 6. Business Dress 7. Doing Business in 8. Conversation Topics 9. Gift Giving The data resources will be examined during class, and time will be allocated to facilitate preliminary discussion and analysis. The project assignment itself will be completed using an on-line web form. Please enter your content directly into the web form, or copy from the.txt file supplied to you. I have created a text file for you to use (with instructions included). Please use this file to input your data and analysis. Please edit you work for accuracy, grammar, spelling and readability, and then visit the on-line input form. Once on-line, you can copy and paste from your text file into the form to complete your project. Be sure to VERIFY that your assignment posted correctly, before the due date, to avoid a point penalty. If you cannot enter project into the on-line form, you must (as TXT file attachment) to instructor (rjagodka@mtsac.edu) to receive credit (before due date). The ed content then must be input into the form the following class day (see instructor for help). Papers must be entered directly or copied into the on-line form to be graded. Projects are graded in descending chronological order (meaning that I grade the papers most recently submitted first), beginning one week after the due date (so ALL projects are graded together even the late submissions). Objective grading criteria are used for all projects, but grading stringency tends to be higher early in the grading process it is in your own best interest to complete the paper early. If you miss the due date, you will still have one week to complete the project (post to the web) with a 20% point reduction penalty. Please work in advance and submit your work in a timely manner. Technology failure on your end is not an excuse.

6 Grading Rubric Projects will be input via an on-line web form (no hard copy papers accepted). If you cannot enter project into the on-line form, you must (as TXT file attachment) to instructor to receive credit (before due date). The ed content then must be input into the web form the following class day (see instructor for help). Papers must be entered directly or copied into the on-line form to be graded. Each section score will be adjusted for grammar, spelling and punctuation. Do not plagiarize this will result in 0 points and possible disciplinary actions. Country Business Profile Project Grading Criteria What is a Strong Paragraph? A paragraph is considered strong if it contains a minimum of 125 words and >750 characters. List your source URLs (in parentheses) if requested. Projects can be submitted on-line up to 1 week after due date with 20% point reduction.
