2 About the Program Sponsor The Cameroon Center for Microfinance Management & Entrepreneurship Development CCEMMED African Dream is a Pan-African initiative with the mission to develop potentials; empower people, organizations and communities to assume responsibility for their economic development challenges. We dream of a society driven by shared positive values that contribute to wealth creation and economic empowerment. The initiative stated in 2008 as an enterprise and leadership development association providing Business Development Services and Microfinance training. In 2011 African Dream was incorporated as a Social Business in the Ministry of Small and Medium Size Enterprise, Handicraft and Social Economy SME. The goal is to foster the development of Microfinance, Entrepreneurship, Social Business and Community Economic Development initiatives. The Cameroon Center for Microfinance Management & Entrepreneurship Development - CCEMMED is a consultancy and advisory program of African Dream, exclusively dedicated to fostering Microfinance Management, Entrepreneurship and Small Business development in Cameroon. We aim at building the institutional strength and outreach of the Cameroon Microfinance and Micro-Enterprise sectors by providing a full range of high quality technical and support services to all industry stakeholders in a sustainable and demand-driven manner. As an independent microfinance and Business Development Services support center, we are committed to promoting innovations, transparency, and increased outreach to the poor and everimproving performance in the Microfinance and SME sectors. We envision developing and enhancing the role of Microfinance as a distinct professional career. In partnership with the Microfinance Association in London and Gogliemo Marconi University in Italy, CCEMMED has been delivering the prestigious Professional Certificate in Microfinance in Cameroon since This executive summer training falls within CCEMMED s strategic objective of delivering an annual World- Class Workshop on Strategic Management for Microfinance Practitioners. Background of the program During the last 30 years, Microfinance the provision of financial services to poor people excluded from conventional banks - has emerged as an important vehicle of social and economic empowerment of poor households in rural and urban areas. It has a record of success in promoting financial resilience, reaching the excluded, empowering women and developing the 2

3 capacity of small groups of people to take control of their own lives. Increasingly, Microfinance is making access to financial services by the world s low-income populations a reality, steadily changing the face of global poverty. This is happening albeit, with enormous challenges. Moving through the next stage of this evolution will call on new and different skills from the men and women at the helm of today s Microfinance sector. Fulfilling the promise of microfinance as a massive response to poverty depends on their successful transition from operational expertise to strategic management. Microfinance institutional managers and leaders are challenged to lead their institutions and organizations while retaining the double bottom-line of economic and social value creation. Institutional leaders must imperatively plan strategically to achieve the dual goals of outreach and financial sustainability. Never before have expectations from the leaders of Microfinance operations been so multifaceted. In addition to achieving high efficiency while processing large numbers of small transactions, Microfinance leaders must also deal with the new challenges brought on by their own success: transparent pricing, high loan default rates, governance and regulation challenges, traditional and non-traditional competition, segmentation, branding, institutional change, executive team development and motivation, equity investors, mergers and acquisitions, risk management all requiring a new complexity in strategic thinking. The CCEMMED Executive Summer Microfinance training is a unique opportunity for microfinance leaders from around the country to examine these issues in the company of industry peers while being exposed to some of the foremost thinkers and practitioners in the field of financial business strategy and management. Participating in the program will raise Microfinance leaders to new levels of leadership, benefiting themselves, their organizations and the many poor they seek to reach out to through inclusive finance.
