1 Progression Award in Vehicle Parts Operations L2- Scheme Handbook Unit 1 Vehicle Parts Department Environment Studies Rationale This unit is concerned with developing knowledge of Health and Safety, Good Housekeeping, the maintenance and development of working relationships and the Security of the Parts department. It covers general health and safety, conduct, interaction with colleagues and supervisors, communications, observation, listening skills and working This unit has four knowledge outcomes.: 1. Health & Safety and housekeeping in a Parts Department. 2. Working relationships. 3. Security in a Parts Department. 4. Handle stock safely Connection with other award This unit when combined with the other mandatory units leads to a level 2 Certificate in Vehicle Parts Operations or a Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Parts Operations. The award provides evidence of the underpinning knowledge requirements for the Vehicle Parts Operations level 2 N/SVQ and is also recognised as a stand alone award. This unit provides the opportunity to gain evidence towards MITC units 1 Contribute to good housekeeping 2 Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety 3 Maintain positive working relationships 34 Contribute to secure workplace 40 move parts and materials manually Assessment The knowledge outcomes for this unit will be assessed by multiple choice examination. Evidence of successful completion of this assessment may be used to satisfy the underpinning knowledge requirements of the MITC National Occupational Standards defined above.: 1

List the Health & Safety and Housekeeping legislation affecting a parts operation a. Health & Safety at Work Act b. Offices, Shops and Railway Premises Act c. Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2. Describe what responsibilities the following have under these (1) Acts/Regulations: a. Employer b. Supervisor c. Employees d. Customers e. Visitor (other than customer) 3. Describe their personal responsibilities/duties for the use and maintenance of parts department equipment and work areas. 4. List the tools, equipment and cleaning solutions used to carry out routine cleaning. a. Describe where each is stored b. Explain the reason for this storage c. Understand the importance of disposing of waste materials to BS Explain why cleaning materials should be used economically 6. List the Personal Protective Equipment that should be used in a parts department: a. dust coat or smock b. overalls c. safety shoes or boots d. panel gloves e. latex gloves f. face mask g. dust mask h. barrier cream 7. Explain when, under what circumstances and why each of the above (4) should be used. 8. Understand the requirements of RIDDOR. 9.
