1 Graduate Research Agronomist The Graduate Research Agronomist position constitutes an 18-month training opportunity through an Agronomist Development Program (ADP). The ADP is an accelerated development opportunity in grains agronomy with an emphasis on building capacity in regional research, development and extension. The Graduate will work across three placements including six months each with the department s leading researchers, industry grower groups and agribusiness firms to provide networking and skill development opportunities. The ADP as part of a Regional Research Agronomy Program (RRA) focuses on improving the adoption of national grains research outcomes by industry at regional scales. This Graduate position supports delivery of the RRA program through contributing to planning, establishing, managing and communicating field trials and demonstration outcomes in the high rainfall zone. At completion of the 18-month program, the Graduate will have industry relevant skills, knowledge and networks supporting future employment opportunities in this growing and vibrant industry. The Group also delivers programs aimed at supporting workers affected by industry changes to transition into new jobs as well as providing opportunities for disadvantaged job-seekers to participate in employment. The Employment, Investment and Trade Group includes Agriculture Victoria; Creative Victoria; Visit Victoria; Regional Development Victoria and the divisions of Investment and Economic Projects; Trade Victoria; Sector Development; Programs, Small Business and Employment; Resources; Fisheries; Employment, Investment and Trade Policy; and the Chief Operating Officer. The Agriculture Victoria Research Division The Agriculture Research Division represents the DEDJTR s agricultural research and development function. The Agriculture Research Division represents a discipline-based science and technology delivery function in the following areas: a) Genomics and Cellular Sciences; b) Microbial Sciences, Pests and Diseases; c) Plant Sciences; d) Plant Production Sciences; e) Animal Production Sciences; and f) Agriculture Resources Sciences. Agriculture R&D is delivered via an innovation ecosystem that converges government, industry/agribusiness and academia/knowledge centres into clustered and collaborative networks, with a clear focus on science and

3 technology for productivity and biosecurity outcomes. It delivers a continuity of research and development activities across DEDJTR s priority areas while also elevating the importance of agricultural R&D in DEDJTR. Key Accountabilities 1. Work as part of a small team to design and deliver projects that meet priorities and timelines to support the Regional Research Agronomists program in the high rainfall zone. 2. Support agronomic trial design, implementation, data interpretation and communication activities that will benefit the grains industry. 3. Develop project planning skills, including designing and managing an individual project which reviews a specific agronomy issue, engages with key partners and develops likely solutions. 4. Support the design and delivery of development and communication packages for grains agronomists and growers, with emphasis on application of emerging social media and web based tools used with in industry. 5. Participate in specific training and development programs. 6. Foster and encourage a culture of continuous improvement and demonstrate DEDJTR values and behaviours. 7. Adopt and apply OH&S policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment. Key Selection Criteria 1. A degree in agricultural science or other relevant discipline related to crop production. 2. Ideation and Activator: Demonstrates a high level of practical aptitude, applies innovative approaches to problem solving, is able to make connections between seemingly unrelated topics and have a strong talent for turning concepts into practical action; particularly in the context of grains related experience. 3. Stakeholder Management: Collaborates with one or more stakeholder groups (e.g. grower groups and agri-business) in addressing local and regional grains research and development priorities and foster beneficial partnerships and responds through contributing to stakeholder s underlying research needs; uses understanding of the stakeholder s organisational context to contribute to targeted outcomes. 4. Written Communication: Demonstrates strong written communication skills and the requirement for compiling experimental protocol documents, which reflect strong scientific principles and writing summary reports. 5. Teamwork and Flexibility: Demonstrates an ability to cooperate and work well with others in the pursuit of team goals; including sharing information; showing consideration, concern and respect for others feelings and ideas; accommodates and works well with the different working styles of others; encourages resolution of conflict within group.
