1 LOMA LINDA UNIVERSITY JOB DESCRIPTION DEPARTMENT: CAPS COST CENTER: POSITION TITLE: Student 3 (CAPS CPC Coordinator) JOB CODE: UH8203 REPORTS TO: Director-CAPS FLSA: Non-exempt ANNUAL PHYSICAL REQUIRED: No Date: March 24, 2009 JOB SUMMARY Coordinates with families from the San Bernardino area, whose children attend the Healthy Neighborhoods Programs at La Escuelita in SACHS Norton Clinic, in order to listen to their needs and seek out resources and learning opportunities for both the greater community and students. Acts as the voice of the community on campus and is the bridge to services for community members. Coordinates quarterly classes for parents and monthly meetings for the parents, plan community events, as well as supports communications between LLU, HNP, SACHS and the local community. 2 PRIMARY JOB DUTIES* 1. E Serves as the primary community liaison for the Healthy Neighborhoods Projects at the SACHS Norton Site; interacts with families, students, youth, community-based organizations, churches, etc. 2. E Connects with parents from the San Bernardino community through phone calls and face to face interaction. 3. E Plans monthly meetings to inform parents about La Escuelita events or classes, asks about their needs for services and shares community resources. 4. E Plans quarterly workshops and classes to be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-630pm or during the same hour of tutoring. 5. E Coordinates LLU students or community organizations to come and share their services to the families (calling, setting up work plan, sign in sheets, follow up resources). 6. E Serves as a liaison for LLU students, faculty, staff and HNP coordinators to connect to the families out in the community 7. E Collaborates and shares resources with the Kids Rock Program Coordinator in order to promote more family involvement in child programs. 8. E Records attendance, volunteers and participation to assist with future funding efforts. 10. E Identifies areas of needs and determines what resources should be used or allocated. 11. M Identifies and confirms speakers, presenters, and translators when needed. 12. 3 JOB SPECIFICATIONS 1. Education: Currently enrolled as a Loma Linda University student. Must be eligible for Federal Work Study program. 2. Licensure: None 3. Experience: None required. Some office and community relations experience preferred. 4. Essential Technical/Motor Skills: a. Ability to operate a computer, b. Ability to process and sort mail, c. Ability to communicate fluently in English. d. Bilingual in English/Spanish required. 5. Interpersonal Skills: Works well with others, is cooperative, takes initiative, participates well in a team environment, good communication skills, ability to take direction, asks questions when doesn t understand what needs to be done. 6. Essential Physical Requirements: SEE PHYSICAL DEMANDS 7. Essential Mental Abilities: Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and able to work under minimum supervision. 8. Essential Sensory Requirements: Ability to see and hear to communicate with others and to operate office equipment. 9. Other: This job requires a commitment of hours a week of which 40% of time will be spent offcampus at La Escuelita. Must be able to work some evenings. This position requires a certain level of flexibility and may require the selected candidate to work after hours, weekends and holidays with a minimum of 2 weekend events quarterly and as needed. 3
