2 Welcome to your Heath & Safety Pathway booklet. this is a manager s guide to the Health & Safety training and development opportunities within Savills Property Management. Savills training department, Savills Pathways, are committed to providing training of the highest quality to ensure all staff have the necessary skills and knowledge to undertake their role to the best of their ability. In turn this will ensure all Savills managed properties meet the Health & Safety standards on site. Your Health & Safety Pathway will be delivered in partnership with IOSH and NEBOSH which will provide you with a recognised qualification in Health & Safety valid for 3 years. HEALTH & SAFETY ROLES Your role with determine what Health & Safety pathway you take. See below for the relevant qualification for your role and the relevant page within this booklet to find out more. A person who takes responsibility for others and stands in for the Implementer when they are off site. Support staff (inc. 4 IOSH Safety Leadership NEBOSH 1 Day Cost: 150 Surveyors, Senior Managers, Centre Directors/Managers To explain the individual and collective responsibilities of Directors, Surveyors and Senior Managers in successful management of health & safety. To explain how these key individuals can discharge their responsibilities and successfully influence H&S performance. To ensure Directors, Surveyors and Senior Managers are aware of the current arrangements for managing H&S within Property Management. To detail the assistance that is available in relation to meeting their duties. To raise awareness of What could go wrong, What has gone wrong and the steps to minimise recurrence. To focus on reputation management and consideration of Client requirements in relation to our H&S responsibilities. Recognise the importance of integrating H&S objectives with other business objectives. Take account of H&S aspects during strategic planning, decision making and effective supply chain management. Understand the principles of H&S management, the importance of continual improvement, and the role of safety auditing within the organisation and to know where to find relevant H&S policies and procedures. Relate compliance on site to the role of the senior managers and their responsibilities for resolving problems such as funding issues. Link to cost / benefit model and reduction in insurance premiums. Detail Savills accident and incident policy, the claims management, and their role in this process. Detail Savills checklist procedure and their key role in this process. To explain the importance of being involved in the site monitoring / auditing process. Detail Savills policy in relation to audits and assessments and their key role in ensuring actions are managed / completed. To explain Savills environmental policies and operational procedures in respect to compliance with relevant legislation. Cost: 1, Days (including 2 revision days & exam) Regional Facilities Managers, other staff with express approval of Surveyor. To build upon knowledge and enable effective management of risk to: Understand the organisation of health and safety, the influence of culture and the human factors which influence behaviour. Understand the legal framework for health and safety management systems. Identify a wide range of workplace hazards and their effective measures, including violence, substances, manual handling, safe movement of people, work at height and the work of contractors. Understand the principles and options for active and reactive monitoring, auditing, accident investigation and reviewing performance. Understand the hazards and control measures in relation to workplace transport including safe driving. Understand the safe selection and use of work equipment and measures to minimise hazards. Understand the hazards in relation to electrical safety, noise, vibration, radiation and basic control measures. Understand the principles of fire safety, fire risk assessment, fire prevention fire alarm systems and emergency processes. You will be required to take a pre-course approval questionnaire before being accepted onto this course to assess its suitability to your role. 5 IOSH (SHE) MANAGING SAFELY FOR PROPERTY MANAGERS iosh health & safety for supervisors 5 Days 2 Days Cost: 800 South / 725 North Cost: 175 per day H&S Implementers SMR employees or contractors who supervise or may deputise for Site Managers. Any other employees who are required to complete Checklists or Permit to Work. To provide the required knowledge to those who ensure day to day compliance of the property. This will include: This course is also suitable for Operational Managers who have previously completed IOSH Managing Safely or the NEBOSH Certificate and require training on Savills policies and procedures. To know what is meant by the terms hazard and risk To evaluate risk using a structured risk assessment approach To identify and implement appropriate workplace precautions for specific risks or seek advice on workplace precautions To be involved in preparing written risk assessments To be able to complete effective record keeping to meet Savills policies and processes To cooperate and communicate on health and safety matters To maintain the day to day safety of employees, tenants, visitors and other people To know how to report relevant accidents and incidents To identify methods of monitoring how safe their workplaces are To explain and understand Savills contractor management and permit to work processes To understand statutory checks and the roles and responsibilities in managing safely on site on a day to day basis and how to practically achieve this Use of case studies from actual events on Savills sites External audits / asssessments and closing actions To explain Savills environmental policies and operational procedures in respect to compliance with relevant legislation To provide the required knowledge to those who ensure or assist in day to day compliance of the property. This will include: To evaluate risk using a structured risk assessment approach To identify and implement appropriate workplace precautions for specific risks or seek advice on workplace precautions. 6 1 Day Cost: 160 IOSH WORKING SAFELY Support Staff The aim of this course is to give customer service, cleaning and security staff an awareness and understanding of health, safety and welfare standards that must be achieved and maintained at the managed properties where they work. This is so they can understand where their role fits into the overall management of the property, in order that they can ensure their own safety and protect the safety of others. Introducing Working Safely Defining Hazard and Risk Identifying Common Hazards Improving Safety Performance Protecting Your Environment 1 Day Cost: 160 IOSH (SHE) Managing Safely for Property Managers Annual Refresher H&S Implementers To update the required knowledge for those who ensure day to day compliance of the property. This will include: To review key accidents and incidents which have occured in the last 12 months in relation to property management with particular reference to minimising recurrence. Use of case studies and accident data from real events on Savills managed sites. To review Savills contractor management and permit to work processes and highlight any events or changes in the last 12 months. To review the significant findings from external audits and assessments and discuss and agree on improvements. To discuss changes in relevant legislation and HSE guidance and their impact on business. To consider relevant case law and agree on what practical improvements can be implemented. To review record keeping in relation to maintenance and statutory inspecton. To consider any changes in Savills environmental policies and procedures. 7 Cost: SAVILLS HEALTH & SAFETY CONVERSION COURSE 2 Days 175 per day New employees in the business who have an existing IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH qualification and require Savills specific training only. To provide the required knowledge to those who ensure or assist in day to day compliance of the property. This will include: To evaluate risk using a structured risk assessment approach To identify and implement appropriate workplace precautions for specific risks or seek advice on workplace precautions. To be involved in preparing written risk assessments in line with Savills risk assessment policy. To be able to complete effective record keeping to meet Savills policies and processes. To maintain the day to day safety of employees, tenants, visitors and other people. To understand Savills accident and incident policy, the claims management policy and their key role within this. To understand Savills contractor management policy, the contractor appraisal process and their key role within this. To understand Savills checklist procedure and their key role in this process. To explain the importance of being involved in the site monitoring / auditing process. To understand Savills policy in relation to audits and assessments and their key role in ensuring actions are managed / completed. Specifically to understand the Permit to Work process and how to issue permits. To explain Savills process in relation to fire and emergency. To explain Savills environmental policies and operational procedures in respect to compliance with relevant legislation. Cost: 85 FIRE WARDEN TRAINING Half Day Employees who are allocated specific duties in regards to fire safety. The aim of this course is to understand fire, its causes, spread and extinction in order to be able to act in the event of a fire. Objectives : By the end of the course you will be able to: Understand the fire triangle and spread methods. Describe the fire triangle and spread methods. Understand Fire Warden duties and routines. 8 FIRST AID AT WORK FIRST AID AT WORK REQUALIFICATION Cost: 3 Days Provided upon request This course is ideal for higher or advanced level hazards, or where the needs assessment identifies a requirement to provide additional training, covering the recognition and treatment of a wider range of conditions. Cost: 2 days Provided upon request Employees who need to renew their first aid at work certificate, and whose existing certificate is still valid. In this course you will build upon your existing skills, re-visiting techniques learnt on the 3 day first aid at work course. In addition to the topics covered on an emergency first aid at work course, on completion of training, successful candidates will be able to: Administer first aid to a casualty with: This course also includes an AED (Automated External Defibrillators) awareness session. For full training in this subject you will need to attend the 2 hour Defibrillator course. Injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries Chest injuries Eye injuries Sudden poisoning Anaphylactic shock Recognise the presence of major illnesses and provide appropriate first aid (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes). AUTOMATIC EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATORS (aed) This course now includes a practical, hands-on automated external defibrillator (AED) awareness session using trainer AEDs, which is aimed to instill greater confidence in the use of AEDs. Cost: 75 2 hours For employees who need to be trained in the use of an AED machine in their workplace and who have a current First Aid Certificate. In addition to a recap of basic life support, you will learn how to use AED, look at safety considerations and build confidence in using the machine in a range of simulated situations. 9 Cost: EMERGENCY FIRST AID AT WORK 1 day Provided upon request Employees who are allocated specific roles in relation to First Aid response. On completion of training, successful candidates will be able to understand the role of the first aider, including reference to: The importance of preventing cross infection The need for recording incidents and actions To use available equipment Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure) Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters) 1 Day Cost: 165 CONVERSATIONS WITH VULNERABLE PEOPLE (INC SUICIDE AWARENESS) Employees whose role brings them into contact with vulnerable customers. This course, conducted by the Samaritans, will equip the delegate with the skills and confidence to handle challenging conversations in a sensitive and professional manner. These techniques help build rapport with a person in order to alleviate their distress and de-escalate any anger or aggression, which can be used in great effect in the workplace. Topics: Understand difficult feelings, e.g. anger, aggression, bereavement Effective listening tools and techniques Appropriate responses to sensitive subjects Defusing difficult conversations Ending contacts effectively - signposting to other services. 10 Cost: 75 SUSTAINABILITY WORKSHOP FOR SURVEYORS 3 Hours Surveyors This workshop is designed to take the delegate beyond basic compliance and show how you can get actively involved at sites to reduce operational costs and maintain your tenant and client satisfaction. The workshop will cover : Why are clients so interested in sustainability? What should I make my client aware of? How to communicate achievements effectively to clients and tenants? Sustainable innovation, a review of current sector specific trends. What are standard practice / core to managing sustainability at my sites? What should I consider when next defining a property budget? What extra sustainability services can Savills offer to existing and new clients? Cost: 50 SUSTAINABILITY WORKSHOP FOR REGIONAL FACILITIES MANAGERS 2 Hours Regional Facilities Managers This workshop is aimed specifically at Regional Facilities Managers and provides detailed information on environmental legislation and other requirements which apply in the day-to-day management of commercial properties. The workshop will cover: An overview of key environmental issues affecting the UK commercial property sector. Environmental legislation and how to ensure compliance at property level. Meeting the environmental requirements of Savills Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Audits. Savills policies and operational procedures on environmental issues. Pollution prevention and risk management. Incident response and reporting. Review of case study examples and lessons learnt. Your account will allow you access to the latest Heath & Safety training. Health & Safety e-learning Programme for support staff To support Health & Safety training for support staff we will be utilising Safety TV, an online training tool which uses video to bring to life a number of key Health & Safety topics. This will enable staff to complete training on mandatory Health & Safety subjects using an on-line format, complementing the face to face training already on offer. The mandatory sessions which will need to be completed are listed below. Additional Health & Safety subjects may be chosen dependant upon business requirements and priority areas, and these will be sent to the site via , with each staff member having their own log in details to access the training.
