Positions/Depts Supervised: Dean of Curriculum and Instruction Director of Nursing Programs Academic Secretary Academic Program Directors Prepared By Title or Dept: Prepared By Date: Southeast Technical Institute Human Resources March, 2018 Approved By Title or Dept: Approved By Date: President of Southeast Technical Institute March, 2018 POSITION SUMMARY This position has primary leadership responsibilities for the strategic academic portfolio that includes: educational program planning, instructional quality, selection and development of faculty, and expanding outreach programs that promote student success. Lends influence in the development of quality technical education programs with local, state, and regional affiliations and government. Provides vision and strategic direction to Academic Affairs staff in developing new approaches, methodologies, and concepts to technical education instruction. This position is the public face of Academic Affairs throughout the campus and external communities. Promotes and develops partnerships with community business and industry leaders, related organizations, and others involved in educational delivery services. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1

Work collegially with campus leadership and faculty committees on matters that impact academic policies and procedures. Maintain a strong and cooperative relationship with the Offices of Admissions and Student Services to develop and enhance student enrollment, retention, and success that are consistent with the goals and objectives of Southeast Technical Institute. ACADEMIC SERVICES AND ASSESSEMENT Work with instructional staff in development of educational programs, including the standards and evaluation of faculty. Provide guidance to, and receive recommendations from the faculty committees regarding the planning, implementation, and review of academic programs, services, activities, and related matters. Provide leadership and oversight of the program accreditation process. Participate in planning of new facilities for the purposes of instructional services. Provide leadership and direct oversight of healthcare and trades programming. Review grant opportunities and oversee implementation within Academic Affairs. Understand and promote the role and use of technology in the instructional environment. STUDENT SUCCESS: Advocate and promote quality instruction and student success, and serve as a champion of diversity, equity, and inclusion to meet the needs of a growing diverse student population. COMMUNITY: Work effectively with community groups, educational entities, business, industry, government, and legislative bodies to develop partnerships that result in improved service and robust technical education programs to students and the community. Represent Southeast Technical Institute at local, state, and regional meetings and conferences. Actively service on committees and teams to forward technical education across the region. PERSONNEL: Train, supervise, and evaluate the job functions and activities of the Deans, Directors, and support staff of Academic Affairs. Provide direction in recruitment and selection of faculty. Provide sound judgment and resolution to staff and student issues. BUDGET: Able to analyze financial information for the purpose of providing direction and support, making recommendations, maximizing use of funds, and ensuring that overall departmental operations are within budget. Able to provide direction and general information support to departmental staff regarding the annual budget process. Understand and articulate revenues and expenditures as it relates to Southeast Technical Institute s monetary responsibilities. 2

4 SKILLS & ABILITIES Minimum qualifications: Master s Degree in related field required. Five (5) years of demonstrated higher education leadership experience including academic or student services administration. Three (3) years of supervising faculty. Demonstrated understanding of the mission of a technical college. Demonstrated experience with strategic planning, budget planning, fiscal management, and leading efforts for ongoing accreditation standards. Demonstrated experience with program accreditation and use of program review. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Knowledge and experience of selecting and implementing new academic programs. Knowledge and experience with innovative methods in curriculum development. Knowledge of State and Federal codes, statutes and regulations that govern South Dakota postsecondary technical education, its mission, its educational and financial issues, and its changing role. Knowledge of computers and computer applications that support management systems and business office functions. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Preferred qualifications: Doctoral degree from an accredited institution. Seven (7) years demonstrated higher education leadership experience including academic or student services administration. Experience in strategic planning, resource management and the development of institutional funding priorities. Demonstrated record of continuous quality improvement and use of data for decision making. Experience with online learning and use of technology in the classroom. Experience in developing partnerships with k-12 systems, four-year universities and business/industry. Demonstrated record of facilitating professional development among faculty and staff. Other Requirements: Demonstrated leadership with focused commitment to teaching, learning, and academic excellence that promotes student success. WORK ENVIRONMENT General office environment with standard office equipment available. Lighting and temperature are adequate. Moderate noise levels typical of an office environment due to staff/student conversations and office equipment. Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions when traveling to other locations. Job is sedentary with physical activities normally required in an office environment. Possible exposure to communicable diseases. 5
