1 POSITION DESCRIPTION MANAGER OF CORPORATE RELATIONSHIPS ABOUT THE POSITION Title: Manager of Corporate Relationships Reports To: Executive Director Classification: Exempt ABOUT NAFOA NAFOA is a national non-profit organization ( Organization ) providing leadership for the advancement of independent and culturally-vibrant American Indian and Alaska Native communities by: promoting excellence in financial management, advocating sound economic and fiscal policy, developing innovative education initiatives, and providing essential information, resources, and support to meet the challenges of economic growth and change. POSITION OVERVIEW Under the direction of the Executive Director or such other position as the Executive Director may designate from time-to-time, the Manager of Corporate Relationships ( Manager ) is responsible for fostering, developing, and maintaining corporate partner ( Partner ) financial support and relationships for the Organization. He or she works with appropriate team members in setting and implementing strategies for identifying, cultivating, and stewarding corporate financial support and donor prospects, as well as coordinating appropriate stakeholder participation through policy, conferences, events, and training programs. He or she will serve as the liaison for Partners by gathering necessary feedback and input from partners. The Manager is responsible for an annual fundraising goal set in collaboration with the Executive Director or his designee, assisting with the collection of Partner pledges, as well as strategic expansion of the program. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Serve as the primary relationship point of contact for existing NAFOA corporate Partners; provide consistent and persistent Partner outreach; mail and/or timely correspondence; service calls, texts, and s from Partners; and, attend meetings as necessary. Related, nonexclusive list of responsibilities:

2 a. Establishing, cultivating, and maintaining personal contact and relationships with corporate program officers and marketing executives. b. Writing, assembling, and submitting corporate funding requests, including letters of intent, solicitation letters, proposals, budgets, acknowledgements, and presentations. c. Ensuring prompt acknowledgement of corporate and foundation gifts and sponsorships. d. Analyze corporate partner expertise around related policy issues. Develop outreach to address policy, education, and other initiatives that may include corporate participation. e. Maintaining calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports. f. Working with appropriate team members in arranging corporate meetings to secure sponsorships and grant funding; and preparing appropriate briefing materials. g. Overseeing timely delivery of corporate benefits and recognition. h. Together with appropriate team members, assist in developing a growth strategy for new and current corporate donors. 2. In collaboration with the Executive Director or his designee, cultivate new corporate partner relationships within and related to the existing financial and legal sector, including: a. Formulate the specific value proposition that will attract a specific potential Partner to sponsor the Organization s mission, conference or special event; and, b. Draft potential new Partner approach letter/correspondence templates. 3. Assist in developing relationships with potential tribal funding partners including relationships based on new economic opportunities, regional visibility for tribal governments, and visibility for tribal economic enterprises. 4. Take part in the coordination and administration of corporate sponsor and partner conference and event participation including making topic suggestions; oversee corporate booth set-up and logistics; provide input regarding corporate advertising and program placement, signage, registration, and speaker invitations; track confirmations and develop any event preparation as needed; assist in developing surveys and soliciting feedback; and other administrative duties deemed necessary by the Executive Director. 5. Organize corporate partner and sponsor participation in webinar and education initiatives. Manager of Corporate Relationships 2

3 6. Other duties include, but are not limited to: a. Assist appropriate team members with organizing separate corporate partner webinars and meetings as needed, including developing appropriate agendas. b. Assisting in establishing Partner-related annual target revenues. c. Invoicing for and collecting sponsor financial obligations as per NAFOA procedures. d. Recording and sharing data on existing and new Partners for review at least once per calendar week. Data must include all relevant contact information, partner business focus areas, past pricing, payment structures, and benefits to NAFOA received. e. Updating corporate partner information on the NAFOA website. f. Participating in weekly NAFOA team meetings. g. Providing weekly reports to the Executive Director. h. Other duties as assigned. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES A minimum of Two (2) years experience in relationship development or strategic partnerships role; mix of corporate and non-profit experience preferred. Track record generating new revenue or successfully managing strategic partnerships preferred. Experience in cause marketing, shared value marketing, and/or constituent relationship management a plus. Experience in tribal government operations or understanding tribal governments a plus. Demonstrated relationship building skills; ability to build relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and styles. Ability to juggle multiple relationship building, relationship development, and negotiations with several companies at one time. Ability to lead internal and external meetings. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and prioritize while working under multiple deadlines. Excellent problem solving and negotiation skills; ability to effectively collect, analyze, organize, distill, and present information. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to travel to domestic locations. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Able to establish and meet conference and event schedules and deadlines. Working knowledge of Native American culture and financial services industry. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Manager of Corporate Relationships 3

4 Able to professionally represent NAFOA. WORK HOURS This is a Forty (40) hours per calendar week position, fifty-two (52) weeks per calendar year; provided, however, during the time periods leading up to, during, and immediately following Organization conferences and similar events, involvement up to Sixty (60) hours per week will be required. COMPENSATION Annual Salary: Negotiable based on experience and skill set related to the qualifications stated. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work from a home office as set out in Attachment A to this Position Description and able to meet with NAFOA staff and partners in person as directed. Domestic travel is required for conferences, client relationship building, and staff meetings. Manager of Corporate Relationships 4

5 ATTACHMENT A REMOTE OFFICE LOCATION Home Office Generally This position offers the flexibility inherent in working from home. To offer this benefit NAFOA expects and considers it to be a job requirement that the Manager create a work space ( home office ) in his/her dwelling conducive to performing his/her duties on behalf of NAFOA. The Manager is responsible for (i) basic office furniture costs, (ii) the rent and utilities of the home attributable to the office, and (iii) other general supplies to perform the work. Phone and Internet The success of this position is founded on the use of the Internet and the telephone. Consequently: NAFOA will provide the Manager with a cellphone and laptop computer for his/her use at home or travel, and an external hard drive to be used for backing-up all NAFOA related files of any nature and type. The Manager may use the NAFOA provided cellphone for personal use that does not cause any additional charges to NAFOA. Outgoing messages or voic messages must clearly and professionally indicate the Manager s role with NAFOA and the ability for someone to leave a message for the Manager in this capacity. The Manager will be responsible for backing up his/her computer files at least once a calendar month on the hard drive that NAFOA provides, and storing that hard drive in a safe place. In addition, the Manager will have a NAFOA account that automatically receives and forwards all s sent from or received by the Manager s NAFOA address. Periodically and at least quarterly, the manager must send him/herself and his/her supervisor a compressed file of his/her NAFOA hard drive to his/her respective NAFOA accounts, that will serve as a backup in case of a local disaster. NAFOA s remote working office environment is functional thanks to many tools and protocols the Organization has adopted. This position requires regular communication with the Executive Director or other Executive Director designee, fellow colleagues and NAFOA staff, NAFOA Partners, member Tribes, suppliers, vendors, consultants, contractors, and others via , telephone, conference calls, web conferencing, website posting, blogs, wiki participation, and instant messaging; as well as other forms of communication which may become available in the future.
