1 A fun way to find answers to important safety Overview Participants will find the answers to the questions provided by simply using a device to scan the QR Code and follow to the website attached. The website the QR Code takes you to will include the answers to the questions. Instructions 1. This activity can be completed individually or in small groups. Each individual or group requires access to a QR Code Scanning capable device, so small groups may be required. 2. Prior to beginning, ensure each group has access to a QR Code reader. These can be found on most smart phones. iphones use phone camera to scan the QR code directly Android download a free QR Scanner from the Play Store (one option is Lightning QR ) 3. Provide each participant (even if working in groups) with the QR Code Activity Work Sheet. 4. There are four categories, each with a separate QR Code and information. Groups should complete all four categories (scan the QR Code, review the information, fill in the answers on their work sheet). Categories include Slips, Trips and Falls; Young Workers; Safety Lingo; and Emergency Preparedness. 5. Once complete, bring the groups/individuals back together to discuss. Variation For less reading/writing and more discussion, you can assign each group/individual with only one of the topics. When the groups come together at the end, they can discuss each category (with those who read about it being the experts and teaching the other groups). Discussion Questions What is one thing you learned that you did not know before? How will it change the way you act (at work, at home, etc.). Will you tell someone else about this new information? Why is understanding risks (such as slips, trips, and falls) important to preventing injuries? What are a worker s three main rights? (Answer: right to know, right to refuse, and right to participate) Where is emergency preparedness important? (Answer: everywhere! Emphasize that this is not only for the workplace, also for school, home, etc.) Is there any other SAFETY LINGO you don't know? Where do you think you could find that information?

This means you can refuse to do a job that is more dangerous than your normal work OR jobs you have not been trained to do. As a worker, you also have!
