2 Welcome... City of Wolverhampton College is working with local community organisations to provide courses at neighbourhood venues that support the learning and skills needs of local people. Health & Social Care (Level 1) This course considers the role of care worker and the relationship with, and responsibilities towards service users and the wider care sector. You will learn important communication skills and how to work as part of a team, as well as developing an understanding of legislation and health and safety in the workplace. Progression available to level 2. Advice and Guidance (Level 2) This course is suitable for anyone working as a volunteer or paid employment offering advice and guidance to clients. Get Ahead Programme For individuals wanting to develop personal skills for the jobs market as well as improve your employability skills; how to apply for jobs. Asbestos Awareness You will learn what asbestos is; how and where it was used; how it can harm us; what the law says; who is at risk and how to work safely with it. COSHH Introduction to health and safety, control of hazardous substances, legislation and legal requirements. Start IT (Beginners) If you are new to computers then this is the course for you, it covers switching on a computer through to producing a printed document, includes using Word, Excel and internet/ . IOSH Working Safely Provides an understanding of the principles of health and safety and accident prevention. You will gain an awareness of basic health and safety law. Topics include: manual handling, accident prevention, fire prevention working at height, hazardous substances, transport/ vehicles work equipment, risk assessment, etc. Manual Handling The course is suitable for anyone looking to increase their awareness and skills in manual operations that involve lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling and carrying loads of articles. Safe Moving and Handling The course covers basic moving and handling principles, which includes moving people. Risk Assessment Gain an improved level of awareness of the legal and practical issues related to this task. Learn how an organisation can apply hazard identification methods in conjunction with a hierarchy of risk controls to ensure the development of an effective risk control management system. 3 Emergency First Aid at Work Suitable for anyone who wants to have general first aid knowledge for the work environment. First Aid for Child and Baby Course aimed at parents and carers looking after children and babies. Paediatric First Aid Suitable for people working with or looking after children. Course covers CPR, Injuries and Childhood illnesses and is a requirement of OFSTED for Childminder. Safeguarding and Child Protection Certificate Introduces you to the area of caring for and working with children and vulnerable adults. It will help develop an understanding of various aspects of childcare, health, development and learning. Food Safety and Catering (Level 2) Gain a valuable qualification to help you handle food safely at home and within a working environment. Environmental Awareness Award The Award in Environmental Awareness at Work is aimed at individuals at any level, in any sector who need a basic knowledge and understanding of environmental issues. Topics include: meanings of the environment, climate pollution and sustainability. CITB Health and Safety Awareness (Level 1) The course is intended to give construction operatives and other employees who have responsibility for working safely on a construction site to gain access to a construction site via the CITB Construction Skills Certification Scheme. Certificate valid for 5 years. If you are aged and in receipt of benefits or unemployed, courses may be free. Please bring evidence of status at enrolment. Customer Service Course aimed at individuals interested in all aspects of customer service for example communication skills, external customer service, team work and customer relations. Care to Make a Difference Introductory course into care, covering core values in care, equality and diversity, effective communication and roles and responsibilities. Youth Work (Level 2) This course incorporates all aspects of working with young people and offers opportunity to undertake additional qualifications for Maths/English/ICT. Interested potential candidates would need to be working with young people presently as it requires Work Based Learning assessment. English Functional Skills Our English Functional Skills course will equip you with the basic practical skills required in everyday life, education or the workplace. The course will enable you to read, write and speak confidently and independently enabling you to achieve your aims and ambitions. Maths Functional Skills During the course you will develop ways to help you use maths skills more effectively in a variety of situations in life, study and work. Depending on your level you will study some or all of the following: Working with numbers using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division Fractions, decimals and percentages Working with data eg graphs, charts, data trends etc Shape and space eg area, perimeter and volume yability & Traineeship team on or prosserl@wolvcoll.ac.uk

If you are in receipt of a benefit, can you please ensure that you bring proof (Jobseekers Allowance and Work related Activity Group, Employment and Support Allowance), as well as your national insurance number. If you are in employment, live outside of Wolverhampton or it is a corporate booking there will be a charge. Please note that college fees will apply for some of the courses for people who are not in receipt of a means tested benefit, however you may be entitled to apply for financial assistance. Is the lack of work experience holding back your job prospects? Then a Traineeship could be right for you! What is a Traineeship? A Traineeship is an education and training programme with work experience that is focused on giving young people the skills and experience that employers are looking for. At its core are work preparation training, English and maths, and a high quality work experience placement. 7 Prince s Trust Team Programme This is a 12 week personal development programme which aims to increase confidence and motivation to enable young people to move towards employment. Activities include team-building and communication skills, personal and team challenges, supporting the local community and focusing on progression and employability training. For more information please contact Anje Groot on Employability - Training for Job Seekers in receipt of benefit The Employability Team work closely with employers to deliver bespoke training courses to suit their recruitment for specific job roles. Courses include Care, Customer Service, IT and Retail. We are supporting local employers with their recruitment for manufacturing in the car industry. To find out how we can help you, call the Community, Employability and Traineeship department on GET UP GET IN GET ON Combat Stress the Crafty Way and Boost your Mood with Gardening. Are you feeling low, lacking motivation, feeling anxious or experiencing sleep problems? If this sounds familiar, our short courses may help you. We re looking for volunteers to take part in a national project researching the impact of community learning on mild to moderate mental health issues including stress, anxiety and low mood. The courses take place in a range of venues across the Black Country and South Staffordshire and provide practical, interesting and fun ways of improving mental health. Each course runs for 15 hours split over 5 weeks and individual guidance and advice is included before, during and after. Get Ahead Plus Programme This programme is designed to improve your career prospects and make employers want you! You ll get to do a range of activities and taster sessions in different subjects so you can find something that really interests you. On successful completion of the programme you can progress to a traineeship, employment, a full-time course at college to advance your skills even further, or apply for an apprenticeship where you will earn a wage while you learn. Off-the-job, usually on a day-release basis, apprentices receive training to work towards nationally recognised qualifications. An apprenticeship can also lead to university.
