Membership organisation dedicated to supporting professional development of technical staff in HE and FE Organisations pay the membership fee which allows their staff to access a range of member benefits 75 HE/FE member organisations Over 3,250 individual members Click here to see a full list of member organisations

8 2. How do we support technical staff? Arm 2: Regional Networks All UK regions Meet at least twice per year Workshops, discussions, tours, presentations & more! Members set the agenda and guide content Event reports and follow-up discussions Online Groups support the #HEaTEDtechs

9 Regional Networks Current series of Regional events taking place in all UK regions during Spring/Summer 2014 Over 750 technicians have booked to attend Regional Network Events this academic year, more are registering daily Over 650 attended across the UK #HEaTEDtechs

13 3. The representative voice Competency Assessment Toolkit for Technical Staff Addresses 5 key competency areas as Modules:

14 3. The representative voice CATTS addresses 5 key competency areas as Modules Each Module has a set of Behavioural indicators

15 3. The representative voice Within each behavioural indicator there are 5 levels of competency to be matched against: 1. Learner 2. Experimentalist 3. Practitioner 4. Specialist 5. Expert The aim is to progress through these levels

17 3. The representative voice Successful implementation of CATTS will mean Technical staff ensuring regular assessment of their own competency and professionalism and owning their own development. Line managers / reviewers engaging regularly with their reviewees to ensure a competent, proactive, professional workforce ready to respond to changing needs.

The representative voice Our recent survey: 96% respondents said that they are involved in the dissemination of experience to students 77% considered it Teaching >27% felt they have received any support from their institution to prepare them for that role. Regional Network Events and contribution to the Online Groups demonstrate commitment to professional development and contribution to the Technical Community Sign posting routes to Registration 21% using HEaTED as evidence 26.5% requesting more information Joined up thinking

Wide range of Awarding Bodies Choose the one specific to professional requirements / specialism More information via Science and Engineering Councils No Arts Professional Register yet, NNATs lobbying for an equivalent register. Registered Practitioner scheme available through the IST
