1 ROLE PROFILE ROLE TITLE: Substance Misuse Recovery Worker (generic role profile) TEAM: Adult Services Team RESPONSIBLE FOR: DRR REPORTS TO: Adult Services Manager SALARY: 21,067-24,663 per year HOURS: 37.5 hours (full time) Programme PURPOSE OF ROLE: To support the adult services team to deliver high quality substance misuse services to women including assessment, planning and reviewing integrated recovery programmes, education and promoting choice and independence throughout recovery. Competency area Service users Service delivery Key activities / decision areas To proactively deliver a high quality, person centrered service provision that meets the needs of the women service users by:- Promoting the rights and responsibilities of women offenders with substance misuse issues Carry out screening and referral assessment to identify and prioritise needs Developing, in conjunction with service users, flexible and realistic support packages and person centred care plans within agreed service models Supporting individuals to access and use services and facilities Agreeing and formulating individual care plans ensuring the promotion of choice and independence Working as an effective member of the team Providing advice and information to service users and their families regarding their support Managing a caseload of service users Ensuring a collaborative approach is used, ensuring effective communication within a multi-disciplinary team DANOS: AA3 / AA4 /AA5 / AA6 / AF / AI

2 Competency area Support and empathy Substance Misuse Key activities / decision areas Support women service users with substance misuse issues turn their lives around by adopting a person centered approach, which includes:- Recognising indicators of substance misuse including problematic use of alcohol, making appropriate referrals Enabling individuals to adopt safe practice associated with substance misuse Supporting individuals in reducing substance misuse Supporting individuals when they are using substances in line with BOP policy and procedure Relating to and interacting with women offenders with substance misuse issues to aid the development of effective relationships Providing information and raising awareness about substances, their use and effects on an individual basis and via facilitating collaborative group learning Developing and disseminating information and advice about health and social well being Leading and contributing to the service delivery planning process of integrated programmes of care to achieve outcomes for women offenders with substance misuse issues Supporting women offenders with substance misuse issues, including alcohol, in a range of difficult times, such as when distressed, at risk of harm, dealing with relationship problems Contributing to the prevention and management of abusive, aggressive and challenging behaviour Applying recognised theoretical models to enable individuals and groups to identify and explore concerns relating to their substance misuse Carry out testing and comprehensive assessment to identify alcohol and other substances Supporting and encouraging women offenders with substance misuse issues to address and to change their offending behaviour DANOS: AA / AA2 / AB1 / AB / AB3 (now GEN134) / AB4 / AB / AB6 / AD1 / AD3 / AD4 (now SCDHSCO0438) / AE / AF2 / AF / AG1 (now SCDHSCO415) / AG2 (now SCDHSCO0025) /AG3 (now SCDHSCO0386) / AI / AI / AI / AJ1 and AJ2 (now SFJCJEC1) 2

3 Competency area Service Service delivery To assist the Service Development Manager in the implementation, development and delivery of BOP's services by:- Assisting in the implementation of BOP's record keeping and by following procedure and policy Attending relevant internal and external meetings DANOS: AC Competency area Rehabilitation provision Rehabilitation To work collaboratively to support the rehabilitation of women offenders with substance misuse issues by:- helping individuals to access employment helping individuals to access learning, training and development opportunities enabling individuals to access housing and accommodation enabling individuals to administer their financial affairs DANOS:AK1 / AK2 / AK3 / AK4 Competency area Service development Service development To work collaboratively to develop BOP's services by:- developing professional links with other agencies, ensuring a corporate approach is adopted ensuring that BOP and its services are represented in a professional manner at all times meeting agreed performance targets and outcomes proactively contributing to the principle of continuous improvement by making positive suggestions and constructive feedback and helping with the implementation of agreed new ways of working DANOS: BA3 (now CFAM&LCA1) / BB1 / BI1 /B12 3

6 PERSON SPECIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS NVQ level 3 in health and social care (or equivalent) or willingness to work towards SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE Proven track record of working within the substance misuse sector Knowledge of the issues facing substance misusers, in particular female substance misusers To have an understanding of working in a way that is trauma informed Experience of helping women substance misusers access substance misuse services Experience of delivering structured interventions to female service users in a non-judgemental way Experience of providing community based support practices and of working in partnership with other partner agencies Skilled in carrying out administrative duties including data entry and report writing Experienced in managing a caseload of service users with complex needs Proven track record in managing incidents of aggression and challenging behaviour or Desirable Desirable ABILITIES AND ATTITUDES Can demonstrate a desire to deliver flexible, creative and quality services including SMART recovery / care plans Committed to safeguarding with regard to adults and children Committed to the principles of equal opportunity and diversity Able to maintain professional boundaries Proven verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor the message to the audience Ability to work effectively as part of a team Adaptable and able to work in a challenging and changeable environment, both on own and in a team Ability to deliver against agreed objectives and targets and understand the importance of working efficiently To understand the importance of taking responsibility for own behaviour and actions Ability to use motivational interviewing techniques Desirable The post is subject to the satisfactory completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS - formally CRB) check at an enhanced level.
