1 Illinois State Fair Jr. Department Positions Job Area: Set-up Crew Number of Positions: 5-7 Accountability: Time of Day: Dates of Employment: Set-up Crew Responsible for the set-up and organization of the Jr. Department buildings. 14 years old minimum. 14 and 15 year olds are REQUIRED to have a work permit on file prior to the start date. Must be able to work with a variety of skills, such as painting, simple assemblies, some heavy lifting, etc. Report to Set-up Crew Supervisor and/or State 4-H Staff Coordinator. 8:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m. July 22- August 7, 2014 AND Friday, Aug. 23 (after school); Dates may vary; Saturdays included Job Area: Jr. Department Livestock Number of Positions: 2 Assistant General Livestock Superintendent Responsibilities assigned by the Livestock Superintendent. One assistant will be in charge of the office and clerks while the other will be in charge of maintenance rings. Worked previously in the livestock area. May be appointed by the Livestock Superintendent if he/she sees fit. $40/day reimbursement will be awarded after time of service. Accountability: Report to the Livestock Superintendant Time of Day: Hours will vary depending upon day s shows and assigned schedule; 7:00 a.m. 9:00 p.m. Dates of Employment: August 4-16, 2014 (Livestock Positions continued on next page)

2 Number of Positions: Livestock Crew 12 for first dates of employment; 6 for second Livestock Crew will be assigned to various tasks including maintenance of rings, ribbons, office work, clerking shows, clean barn areas, etc. Many tasks may be assigned as the shows progress. Duties may be assigned the day of from the Assistant or Superintendant. Must be 14 or older with a work permit (if 14 or 15). Accountability: Report to General Livestock Superintendent and General Livestock Assistant Superintendents. Time of Day: Hours will vary depending upon day s shows and assigned schedule; 7:00 a.m. 9:00 p.m. Dates of Employment: First dates of employment: August 4-11, 2014 Second dates of employment: August 12-16, 2014 Job Area: General 4-H Exhibits Jr. Department Superintendent Number of Positions: 4+ Checking and signing paperwork from Project Assistants, answering questions from parents and youth, assuring smoothness when it comes to daily events, etc. Extension Staff or qualified Extension Volunteers No direct compensation to Extension Staff; Compensation to Extension Volunteers to be determined Accountability: Responsible to State 4-H Staff Coordinator. Time of Day: 7:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m. Public Presentations Project Assistant Number of Positions: 4 Check-in exhibitors, some paperwork involved. Assist judge in paperwork, ribbons, arrangement of work, assigning judging times, keeping the schedule on track. Microphone work and checking to be sure the right equipment is ready for the person waiting to present. May assist with other projects areas, depending upon location assigned Time of Day: Generally 8:00 a.m 4:00 p.m., depending upon assigned location

Checking in and out projects to rightful owners, some paperwork, and security of projects. Assist judge in paperwork, ribbons, arrangement of work, assigning judging times, keeping the schedule on track. Time of Day: Generally 7:45 a.m 4:30 p.m. Fashion Revue Project Assistant Number of Positions: 3 Check-in exhibitors, some paperwork, and security of projects. Assist judge in paperwork, ribbons, keeping the schedule on track. Must arrange show and go through how the models will be on stage. Project assistants in this area will also be on stage reading scripts written by the youth. Must be able to present in front of large crowds. $25/day reimbursement will be awarded after time of service (lower amount due to fewer working hours) Time of Day: Generally 8:30 a.m 4:00 p.m., depending upon day

4 Welcome/Information Booth Attendant Number of Positions: 8-10 Be the front line for questions in the 4-H area. Since we are in several different locations, this position is exceedingly important. This position will be the first person that people see in the morning and needs to have the answers to everyone s questions. An orientation will be provided before shift begins. Consideration for previous attendance and work at the fair. $30-35/day reimbursement will be awarded after time of service. Accountability: Responsible to State 4-H Staff Coordinator. Time of Day: Generally 7:30 a.m. 2:00 p.m. Public Presentations Judge Number of Positions: 4 Score various types of public presentations. Top presenters in each class are recognized each day. Must be 21 years or older with expertise in your area. Please provide a Time of Day: Depends upon assigned location. May be 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. 4:00 p.m. Fashion Revue Judge Number of Positions: 3-4 Score fashion revue models on poise, fit, appearance. Top models are recognized each day. Must be 21 years or older with expertise in your area. Please provide a Time of Day: Generally 11:30 a.m. 1:30 p.m.

After all youth have been judged, select top 10-25% to receive Superior rating in your category. NOTE: Filmmaking/Video judging will be done on-line, with one-on-one discussions with the exhibitors on their assigned fair date. Some judges will also be asked to view on-line videos to check for accurate subjectmatter information. Must be 21 years or older with expertise in your area.
