The MSC offers a Death in Service insurance benefit equal to four times annual salary. Working hours: Contract: Full time (40 hours a week). The MSC supports flexible working, so the pattern of hours may vary according to operational and personal needs. MSC works across different time zones and evening or weekend work may be required occasionally. The post holder may also be asked to undertake some international travel and overnight stays. No overtime is payable, however under certain circumstances Time off In Lieu may be granted. This is a permanent contract, with a six months probationary period. Holiday Equal opportunities 25 days per annum, plus statutory holidays, pro rata where necessary. Carry over entitlement of up to a maximum of five days per annum. 2 A JOB SUMMARY Successful communications and marketing is at the heart of the MSC programme, vital to driving understanding of the relationship between seafood sustainability and healthy oceans for future generations. The PR Manager, Spain and Portugal will build and maintain excellent working relationships with the media, developing stories and media events to deliver a calendar of media coverage to promote the MSC, and our key commercial partners primarily in Spain. The PR Manager supports the Iberian team in the design and delivery of media strategies aimed at building understanding and support for certified sustainable seafood. Reporting to the the successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the Marketing, Fisheries Outreach and Commercial Outreach teams within the Iberian team. We expect the post holder to be an advocate of our mission and passionate about our core purpose and values. The post has a vital role to play in raising our profile and engaging the Spanish and Portuguese public to achieve our mission. As part of the Iberian team, this post plays an important role in the MSC, communicating its messages in the market. Ours is a fast-paced work environment and the successful candidate must be adept at managing multiple priorities while delivering excellent results. With limited resources, this post involves a lot of creative and lateral thinking to ensure that MSC aims and activities are effectively promoted and delivered. The post will be based in MSC s office in Madrid and will involve being part of MSC s on call team, handling media calls out-of-hours. They will also be required to undertake occasional travel for relevant events and conferences. The job holder will be part of the MSC s Iberian Region team and will participate in the collective strategic planning and development of the organization in the region. Moreover, they will work in close co-operation with other European offices, and communications staff in other MSC offices, as well as the central Global Communications and Marketing team. B RESPONSIBILITIES (Key Results and Outcomes) Support the Iberian team in the design and delivery of Spanish and Portuguese media strategies Work with MSC s commercial partners and key stakeholders to identify and proactively develop PR content, editorials, blog posts, case studies, photo and video commissions and in coordination with the Marketing Manager, foster opportunities for proactive communications and joint promotion to bring to life the MSC s work Lead on MSC Spanish and Portuguese media relations: Leverage existing media relationships and cultivate new contacts with online, print and broadcast journalists, editorial writers and columnists in the national, consumer and trade media maintaining a media contact list. Engage and maintain relationships with ambassadors who can support MSC mission Devise, execute and monitor Spanish/Portuguese consumer media campaigns across multiple channels and manage day-to-day media relations including enquiries, press trips, media conferences and events, media kits, pitching stories to journalists, and one-to-one briefings, create content and write press releases, backgrounders and other written materials as required Liaise with the Marketing Manager, to develop and deliver a coordinated calendar of multichannel campaigns Page 2 of 5

3 Manage a (limited) PR budget and campaign budgets Deliver evaluation reports of PR campaigns and act as Spanish/Portuguese lead with MSC s global media monitoring supplier, Kantar Media, including all relevant licenses. Deep understanding of the digital environment, and main social media networks Creating and managing publications, brochures handouts, leaflets, reports, managing translations, design, printing and digital distribution, according to the MSC s brand guidelines and undertake quality control. Any other duties as requested by the Spain and Portugal Program Director C PERSON SPECIFICATION Technical Skills and Experience University degree in media communications, public relations, journalism or equivalent experience Demonstrable extensive consumer PR experience either in-house or in a PR Agency with a background in sustainability, environmental issues, or food PR The ability to write sparkling, persuasive copy (in Spanish) that will make people want to read about sustainability, the oceans, fish and seafood; demonstrable success at pitching stories to journalists Well-developed IT skills, including confident use of MS Office products (SharePoint, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook) Experience of working with and developing digital, print and other communication channels; thorough digital understanding across all channels is essential Proactive approach to PR story gathering, pitching, and relationship building Demonstrable experience of managing a limited budget. Communication Demonstrated excellence in spoken and written communications in Spanish and English essential. Portuguese desirable Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate complex issues in a clear manner to a wide variety of audiences across diverse channels (online, TV, print, radio) Evidence of ability to successfully manage relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, clients, suppliers and collaborators Experience of recruiting and retaining celebrity ambassadors An understanding of the issues that may be of importance to different stakeholders in the MSC program, especially engo s and industry stakeholders. Organisational Skills Demonstrable experience of delivering multiple simultaneous projects on time and within budget Ability to exercise sound judgement and demonstrate initiative to accomplish assigned tasks Track record of forging and maintaining high-level and successful partnership projects across different sectors, and of navigating complex and politicised stakeholder environments Versatility to combine self-management and self-support when working alone with productive team membership.
