COURSE DESCRIPTION: This is a fifteen (15) week co-op experience for Automotive Technology students. COURSE OBJECTIVE: The student will complete 15 weeks of co-op with a minimum of 15 hours per work week. Total co-op hours for the semester will be a minimum of 225 hours. COURSE REQUIREMENTS: The student will provide the instructor with information regarding his/her, place of employment and contact phone numbers. This will be recorded on the attached Student Information Sheet. The student and the student s manager must sign the Student Information Sheet and have it returned to the professor by the first week of the semester. The professor will visit the student at the workplace. This date will be established cooperatively by the student and professor during the semester or based on time constraints. The professor will also be required to speak with a supervisor (manager) regarding work performance during the visit or by phone. The student will provide a detailed Apprentice Monthly Report for each month during the semester. This report will be submitted on a monthly basis and given to the instructor for attendance and grading purposes. Insert it in my mailbox. The last report must be submitted by the last week of the semester to the professor for final grades. WEEK OF ASSIGNMENTS 1. First Week Semester Begins (start working and searching for a co-op) 2. Second Week Review Syllabus and provide required information to instructor (see attached Student Information Sheet) 4. 3 to 14 th Week Once a month hand in Student Job Search Log (if you are not employed) or Apprentice Monthly Report, Work Place Skills Knowledge and Abilities Evaluation, and Daily Work Journal. Turn in all documents into the professor s mailbox th Week All Apprentice Monthly Reports due/ Final Grades 3

4 GRADING: The student will receive a grade based on work attendance and logged hours on the Apprentice Monthly Report (100%). CLASS WITHDRAWAL: The professor will not withdraw you from your class(s). Any student concerns with your employer should be handled in the following manner. Step 1: Talk with the employer. Your goal is to maintain 100% efficiency or greater. To calculate your efficiency, use the chart and formulas listed below.
