Purpose 1. To provide insight into emergent requirements in the new economy 2. To define the career opportunities for Business Analysts 3. To introduce the characteristics and elicit feedback from students who have engaged in learning this emergent domain at George Brown College

There are approximately 150,000 BAs and related professionals in Canada BA roles have been the fastest growing ICT employment occupation in Canada from , growing approximately 120% in that time. ICTC recognizes Pervasive Shortages for Information Systems Analysts and Consultant professionals through and beyond 2016.

Business Analysis: Answering the Needs of the KBE A business analyst-in-training must master three unique, yet interwoven skills areas; 1. Vision 2. Competencies 3. Techniques While these three silos of knowledge may seem logical, the role of a business analyst seldom is.

George Brown College: Business Analyst Programming 3-Semester, one-year intensive PG Certificate Programs intended to bridge theory and practical learning experiences. 17 Questions for our Learners Q1: Based on your educational background and experience, why did you feel you would be well suited to engage in the Business Analyst role? Q2: Based on your educational background and experience, what challenges did you anticipate upon entering this program?

Q1: Why did you feel well suited to engage in the Business Analyst role? Student 1: Sales My past education (MBA) and in I.T Sales, I have been engaged to interact with various kind of stakeholders, to identify their business needs. Student 2: Teacher I have spent most of my working career as a teacher, and a business analyst must be people oriented. Also, the job entails giving presentations to the various stakeholders Student 3: Developer I enjoy liaising with different stakeholders, and learning about the various work areas and departments of a company. It seemed interesting, as Bas are always put into a new situation, and need to be flexible when thinking of solutions for their challenges.

Q2: What challenges did you anticipate upon entering this program? I had never studied or worked closely in a team of members with different cultural and educational backgrounds Even with some BA experience, I discovered a lot of areas in the course that were completely new to me Keeping up with the workload of an entirely new knowledge-area to me, and learning while working for companies Grasping some of the technical jargon and methodologies of the IT world Understanding business!! IT is easy, but business can be far less logical

Summary 100% of the 2010 cohort are employed in their chosen field business analysis or related. Demand outweighs supply for qualified, well trained, and BAs with experience The process is the purpose In the KBE, achieving predefined objectives do not ensure achievement in education or your career.
