The Resilient Technology Collaborative (RTC) Solving our Greatest Technology Challenges

Industry s Technology Challenges The Gaps: absences, weaknesses, or limitations of the technology we use to perform our critical functions

Pain Points Concern with the BC & DR technology we use: Broad impact when it fails during an event Have to find workaround whn recovery tech fails We are aware of existing risks with critical systems Can impact more than one organization May be aware of Life/Safety risk

Background We asked an audience: What are the technology challenges BCP professionals face today and how can the planning community work together to develop solutions? September 2013 Contingency Planning Exchange Our panel: Gartner, JPMorganChase, NEDRIX, and Continuity Centers

Audience Feedback Attendees contributed: Technology challenges Confirmed need to address challenges A consensus validating need for initiative

The Resilient Technology Collaborative (RTC) We formed the RTC to meet the challenges Our Mission: To identify, document, and drive solutions to the Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning industry s shared technology challenges, with regard to planning, response, testing, and recovery tools.

Goals Build inventory of technology gaps from user-base perspective Facilitate the user-base to organize and proactively solutions

Sound Familiar? We conduct a gap analysis for an organization s recovery technology needs: A survey whose aim is to identify the differences between BCM/Crisis Management requirements (what the business says it needs at time of an incident) and what is in place and/or currently available DRJ Glossary of terms

Industry Technology Gaps Why not a similar approach for our industry? Consider our current capabilities Where do they need to be? What are the Gaps? This information tells us: Need for additional capabilities Where does investment need to be?

Why Identify Gaps? Reduce the pain points Improve industry coordination Minimize major event impacts Share expertise/knowledge/ideas Save money Save time Reduce redundancy of efforts

And Provide Industry validated data on known gaps Resource for internal Gap analysis Support Gap analysis consistency Align resources with others to close gaps

How do WE do it? Organize and work together to: Identify industry gaps Prioritize by impact Raise needs awareness Unify our efforts for: Tangible results Benefits the industr
