2 Introduction At Oakwood Worldwide, corporate social responsibility (CSR) plays a major part in the way we operate and conduct ourselves around the world. We run our business with a thoughtful and comprehensive viewpoint that considers the experiences and perspectives of our associates, clients, guests, suppliers and partners as well as our impact on the environment. We are proud to lead the corporate and serviced apartment industry with the most extensive CSR policies and measurements, as we continue striving to be a good corporate citizen by conducting our business with the highest ethical and professional standards while supporting a diverse workplace. This report provides an overview of Oakwood Worldwide s CSR policies and highlights several areas where we have achieved measurable results, including reducing our environmental footprint and helping to keep our associates and clients safe. 2

3 Sustainable Business Practices Oakwood Worldwide deeply respects the environment and understands how important it is to preserve and protect our natural resources. We are committed to conducting our business in ways that lessen our impact on the environment by: MONITORING our environmental performance annually and setting targets for improvement. INCLUDING environmental measures on our inspection checklists to manage environmental targets and issues. COMPLYING with and, where possible, exceeding any applicable legal and other environmental requirements relating to our company. PROVIDING necessary training and awareness programs for our associates. We have set several specific goals for reducing our energy and water consumption and increasing our use of energy-efficient processes, appliances and vehicles. We are making solid progress on those goals, including achieving the following in the US: WATER, GAS & ELECTRIC USAGE -6% From 2014 to 2015, reduced water, gas and electric usage in our Oakwood corporate apartments by 6 percent 75% ENERGY EFFICIENT CFL BULBS All of our Oakwood corporate apartments have converted from using incandescent light bulbs to energy efficient CFL bulbs, reducing our carbon dioxide emissions by almost 1,300 tons annually and our kwh usage by more than 2 million kwh annually. HIGH EFFICIENCY WASHING MACHINES About 75 percent of Oakwood-managed properties have converted from conventional washing machines to high efficiency machines, reducing our water consumption by 38 percent annually. HYBRID VEHICLE CONVERSION Between 2011 and 2015, our Home Services team has converted 10 percent of its vehicles to hybrids, contributing to our 25 percent annual reduction in fuel consumption. 3

4 Sustainable Business Practices CONTINUED LOW-FLOW TOILETS AND SHOWERHEADS Since 2005, 100 percent of Oakwood-managed properties have converted from conventional to low-flow toilets and showerheads, reducing water consumption by more than 68 million gallons of water annually. A GROWING TELECOMMUTING WORKFORCE 22% Additionally, 22 percent of our eligible workforce telecommutes on a regular basis. Oakwood Worldwide is committed to considering LEED certified buildings when we make strategic acquisitions. LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is a green building certification program sponsored by the U.S. Green Building Council that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices and promotes renewable, clean energy. In any market or circumstance where Oakwood Worldwide has the option for a LEED certified asset versus non-leed, the LEED certified asset would be given greater preference. We currently manage five such buildings, including: Oakwood Portland Pearl District, Portland LEED Platinum Certified. Oakwood Seattle South Lake Union, Seattle LEED Silver Certified. Oakwood Premier Incheon, Incheon, South Korea LEED Silver Certified. Our Global Supplier Sustainability & Selection Preference Policy provides details on our expectations to operate in an environmentally responsible manner by complying fully with all applicable international, federal, regional, state and local environmental laws, ordinances and regulations. In addition, it discusses how we encourage our suppliers to help us fulfill our environmental commitment by reducing environmental impacts and resource consumption, while continually advancing the sustainability of the products and services we purchase. 4

5 Providing a Safe Work Environment Oakwood Worldwide is committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for our associates. It is a shared responsibility and we expect all associates to assist in maintaining such an environment. Our views on safety are based on the following guiding principles: OUR GOAL 0 INJURIES ALL INJURIES are preventable SAFETY is the responsibility of all associates WORKING SAFELY is a condition of employment The Company also sets quarterly safety performance targets to continually make safety improvements. We are proud of our safety record and efforts to regularly look for ways to improve workplace conditions. Our safety processes and procedures are outlined in our Injury and Illness Prevention Program which is updated annually and available online to all associates and also kept in a bound version at all Oakwood properties. Oakwood Worldwide s commitment to safety and security extends to our guests, clients and partners and is outlined in our Duty of Care program, which encompasses a comprehensive philosophy and structure that addresses the key areas of crisis readiness, response and business continuity. p Oakwood Portland Pearl District 5

6 Providing a Safe Work Environment CONTINUED Our program applies proactive processes and tactical measures to manage against a range of events, from natural disasters and catastrophic episodes, to crimes, misconduct and potential information security issues. It has helped our company to: Prepare for and anticipate a range of crisis events Properly train employees to handle issues and follow detailed protocols Communicate with and track employees abroad keeping them informed and offering guidance and support throughout each phase of a crisis Communicate with clients during an event, letting them know the status of their assignees (our guests); and Swiftly identify clients or guests in need and deliver required, and often, lifesaving assistance. Our Global Labor Practices & Human Rights Policy provides further details about our priority to protect the safety and security of our associates and guests. Business Ethics We take pride in running our company with high ethical standards, integrity and good judgment. By doing so, we have built trusting, long-lasting relationships with our clients and suppliers, created a sustainable and growing business, and fostered a supportive and collaborative environment for our associates. Our core guiding principles lead us to: Treat each other, customers, guests, suppliers and partners with respect. Be truthful, fair, accurate and responsible with customers, guests, suppliers, partners and our colleagues. Protect our reputation as a trusted, thoughtful and reliable corporate housing and serviced apartment provider. Our Global Business Ethics Policy outlines all acceptable standards of conduct related to our overall business practices, including our vision: To be the most trusted name in temporary living solutions globally. It also covers all laws we expect our associates, suppliers and partners to comply with and provides specific steps for our associates to report any misconduct issues. 6

7 Labor Practices and Human Rights Oakwood Worldwide supports a fair, respectful and diverse workplace. We hire associates with a broad variety of perspectives and experiences and believe everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, honesty and respect. In addition, we recognize our responsibility to run our business in a manner that respects human rights through our worldwide operations and business relationships. Our commitment to advocating and valuing human rights is directed by our Global Labor Practices and Human Rights Policy. The policy outlines our support of diversity and inclusion; our hiring practices, including our commitment to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Affirmative Action (AA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act; our zero tolerance for harassment of any kind; our policy of paying fair wages; and our commitment to not employing illegal child labor. Giving Back We believe strongly in giving back not only to the communities in which we operate, but also to so many in need around the world. Our more than 3,200 global associates enjoy volunteering and raising funds to lend a helping hand, working with almost 30 charities and organizations, from food pantries and homeless shelters in the U.S., to a women s shelter in the United Kingdom, to the Nepal Earthquake Fund. On a corporate level, we recently began working with the Foundation for Fighting Blindness to raise funds to help prevent, treat and cure retinal degenerative diseases. In addition, we have a long-standing relationship with the United Service Organizations Inc. (USO) of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore, helping fund programs to support children whose parents are deployed, services for military spouses and emergency housing programs. In 2014, Oakwood Worldwide accepted the honor of being inducted into the USO-Metro s 2014 Circle of Stars as a corporate donor who provides generous funding to help support USO-Metro s mission to lift the spirits of military families. 7
