1 A letter from the President Welcome to the first installment of the 2016 SHRM-Medina County Newsletter. I am very honored to serve as your President this year. While I am happy to be on this journey with you all and some of our dedicated returning Board Members, I would specifically like to thank Jackie von Hoch, Dan Csaky and Kelly Cozza for all of the efforts they have put forth to make our chapter successful. We began the year with a new promotion that allows you to have a free lunch if you bring a new guest to our chapter meeting and we have had quite of few new guests that we have all enjoyed meeting. We are always looking to serve the Medina community and would like any suggestions, questions or comments. Please feel free to me at gloria.jones@wellsfargo.com. We already have a full program year planned that will include a very very exciting July program that has been specifically designed for our members. This will include a FREE assessment (paid by our chapter) by Pradco and presented on July 26th. Remember it is not too late to become a member! 2 Our July meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 26. The July program will be presented by Pradco with a free assessment (paid by our chapter) for members only. Guests may purchase the assessment for $150. All attendees will pay the normal lunch fee. An overview of the assessment results will be presented during the meeting. We will send another in the coming weeks with more detailed information as assessment pre-work is necessary. It's not too late to become a member and get the assessment for free! Meet our Board On December 10, 2015 during our Member Appreciation Luncheon and Silent Auction the SHRM- Medina County Board was installed by our 2015 President, Jackie von Hoch. Your new Board has been hard at work putting together plans and ideas to make SHRM Medina County even better in You should expect a variety of speakers and meeting sponsors that we believe will meet your Human Resources needs as well as the re-implementation of our Newsletter. As a member of SHRM Medina County we are also looking out for your interests and want to hear from you as to what you would like to see from our Chapter. Gloria Jones President Gloria Jones is an Employee Benefits Advisor at Wells Fargo Insurance in Cleveland, Ohio. She is an energetic, passionate, and problem-solving professional with a cross-functional background that includes various aspects of human resources, including employee benefits, in a career spanning over 25 years. Gloria s unique experiences have

3 fostered an effective consultative approach to her work; she understands her clients needs and abilities and her talent lies in identifying creative and alternative solutions for them. Prior to joining Wells Fargo Insurance, Gloria worked for an employee benefits brokerage firm where she spearheaded the creation and implementation of a unique group benefits program that focused on improving the health, wellbeing and engagement of employees. She is experienced across a broad segment of industries including non-profit, manufacturing, financial and professional services and technology, among others. Gloria s specialties include benefits plan design and administration; wellness; PPACA; policy development and implementation/ compliance; and employee opinion surveys. Gloria is a licensed Life & Health and Property & Casualty Agent and a Registered Health Underwriter (RHU) through the American College of Financial Services. She serves on the Medina SHRM Board as President. She is committed to giving back to her community by volunteering for Western Reserve Hospice, Habitat for Humanity, engaging in Cleveland s Dress for Success programs, and supporting Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through many avenues, including Team in Training. She is originally from Akron, Ohio and came to the Cleveland area by way of New Jersey and California, life experiences that contributed to the

4 making a polished and seasoned executive. Kelly Cozza President Elect / VP Programs Kelly Cozza, H. R. Manager; EBO Group Inc., has focused her career on enhancing employee morale and performance to create a work environment based on teamwork with an emphasis on open communication. Kelly has over 20 years HR experience in industries that include government, non-profit, banking, private lenders and call centers. She has a strong background in strategic staffing, employee relations, consulting/coaching and change management. Her expertise is in building teams and forming the organizational structure from the ground up to enhance employee morale and retain key talent. Prior to joining EBO Group, she was a Sr. Director of Human Resources for Student Loan Xpress as well as an HR Manager for Cleveland Metroparks. Kelly is a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) through the Human Resource Certification Institute and an active member of The Society for Human Resource Management, Medina Chapter where she volunteers on the board as the Vice President of Programming and Membership. She is a graduate of Baldwin Wallace with a BA in Human Resources Management and Organizational Development and is certified in Strategic Leadership Management through Cornell

5 University. She most recently received certification as a SHRM-CP through SHRM International. She has strong ties with her community, volunteers at Buckeye Local School, Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dogs and Habitat for Humanity. Kelly is also a member Medina Economic Development Committee and the Medina Safety Council. Jen Martin Treasurer Jen has worked in business management in the construction industry for over 15 years. Her expertise is in human resources and accounting. She created the Human Resources department and policy book from the ground up for her current employer. She has lived in Medina with her husband and son for thirteen years. Debbie Vorndran Secretary Debbie Vorndran is the HR Communications and Employee Programs Specialist at Westfield Group where she has been employed for 39 years. Her long tenure at Westfield has given her the opportunity to work in many different roles. Currently she handles all HR communications, employee recognition, employee programs and events. She is dedicated to making Westfield a great place to work. Debbie is a graduate of Walsh University with a Bachelor s in Business Management. She received the Certified Recogniton Professional (CRP)

6 designation from Recognition Professionals International in She earned the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) designation in 2010 and obtained the SHRM-CP in Jaclyn von Hoch Past President Jackie von Hoch has been a Human Resource Professional for 12 years. She lives in Brunswick Hills with her husband, Erik, and daughter, Kaydance. Jackie is a Senior Compensation Analyst for Westfield Insurance and has worked in Medina County for the last 6 years. Jackie has her PHR, SHRM-CP, a Bachelor s degree from Baldwin-Wallace College and an MBA focusing in HR from The Keller School of Management. Scott Tinter SHRM Foundation CLA Director Scott Tinter is a Regional Leader and independent representative with Primerica, Inc. since Primerica helps families become properly protected, debt free, and financially independent. He is a graduate of the University of Akron and lives with his wife and children in Medina. Danita Srodek Workforce Readiness CLA Director As a consultant and grant coordinator at OhioMeansJobs Medina County, Danita Srodek has a number of years in

7 workforce development, along with a wide variety of other work experience. This unique role in workforce allows her to assist jobseekers in finding new and satisfactory employment opportunities, broadening both individual and community goals. Her Grant involvement includes working with employers, training centers, and participants to determine needs and offers educational opportunities. Danita s experiences include teaching children and adults in public and private education, holding licenses and certifications in these respective areas. Ms. Srodek received her bachelor s degree from the University of Akron and master s degree from Old Dominion University. As a life-long resident of Medina County, Danita enjoys working with jobseekers and employers, assisting them in meeting their training, employment and hiring requirements. Nellie Rodman Sponsorship Chair Nellie Rodman is currently the HR Manager for Westfield Bank in Westfield Center, Ohio where she coordinates human resources activities, such as recruitment, compensation, employee relations, benefits, training, and employee services. For ten years Nellie has assisted employees by providing excellent customer service in all aspects of Human Resources. Nellie has the SPHR and SHRM-SCP certifications. She also has a Bachelor of Science degree in English from Truman University. Nellie has been a member of National SHRM since 2006 and joined SHRM Medina County in

8 2012. This will be her fourth year on the Board and has transitioned from the SHRM Foundation Director to the Sponsorship director. Karen Jakubowski Diversity Chair Karen Jakubowski is proud to be a SHRM SCP and SPHR certified HR professional. Karen has lived in Medina County since 1998 and is a graduate of the Leadership Medina County Class of Recently, Karen joined Westfield Group as a Performance Consultant. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from Kent State University and an MBA from Baldwin Wallace University. After serving on the Cleveland SHRM chapter board as Program Chair, VP and President, Karen became a District Director to the Ohio SHRM State Council and supported the creation of the SHRM-Medina County chapter as an SHRM affiliate. She is very excited to have the opportunity to now serve her home chapter as the Diversity Director. Jennifer Bragg Certification Director Jennifer Bragg is Manager, COBRA & Compliance Client Services at NEO Administration Company, a benefits consulting firm that provides FSA, HRA, HSA, and COBRA administration, and compliance services to area employers. In her role, Jennifer is responsible for managing the COBRA & Compliance client service function for both small and large groups.

9 Jennifer graduated cum laude from Walsh University with a BA degree in Business Management Human Resources. She earned her Professional in Human Resources (PHR) designation in 2013 and obtained her SHRM-CP in The following board positions are open. VP Membership Legislative CLA DIrector College Relations CLA DIrector Marketing / Newsletter Chair SHRM Foundation Last December, our chapter donated $1,300 to the SHRM Foundation from our silent auction. The SHRM Foundation is a nonprofit organization that helps shape the future of HR by awarding scholarships to future leaders, furthering HR research, publishing reports and briefings, producing case study DVDs, and moving thought leadership forward. All SHRM Foundation products are complimentary and their focus on further the HR profession and professionals is made possible by donations from sponsors and donors. Learn more about the SHRM Foundation by clicking here. It s not too early to start thinking about a donation for this year s silent auction to be held in early December. The success of the Silent Auction depends on the creative and interesting items we receive as donations for bid.
