1 Kōtui/APNK Business Development and Operations Manager National Library, Information and Knowledge Services The purpose of the National Library is to enrich the cultural and economic life of New Zealand and its interchanges with other nations by collecting, preserving and protecting documents, particularly those relating to New Zealand, and making them accessible for all the people of New Zealand, in a manner consistent with their status as documentary heritage and taonga; supplementing and furthering the work of other libraries in New Zealand; and working collaboratively with other institutions having similar purposes, including those forming part of the international library community. The Kōtui/APNK team is responsible for the operation of Kōtui which is the shared library management and discovery system used by 34 local authority libraries around New Zealand; and APNK which provides computers for public use in 147 public library locations around New Zealand. The purpose of this role is to lead the ongoing strategic and business development of the Kōtui and APNK services and manage resources and risks to ensure an effective and efficient operation. The role will also manage the Kōtui/APNK team to deliver outstanding services to public libraries. 3 What you will do to contribute Business development and innovation Look for and implement new innovative developments to ensure that the Kōtui library service continues to deliver value to libraries and their customers. Look for and implement new innovative developments to ensure that the APNK service continues to deliver value to libraries and their customers. Work with other Australasian Sirsi-Dynix consortia and partner libraries to maximise opportunities for collaborative development Foster collaborative developments between libraries that take advantage of the shared platforms Relationship management Manage the relationships with local authorities, library managers and Council IT for the implementation and ongoing management of the systems Provide advice and reports to the Kōtui Board and any future APNK advisory board Support and advise the Kōtui Library Managers Executive System development and management Negotiate and manage the relationships with the LMS and related software and hardware vendors Plan and manage all system upgrades and software improvements Oversee the project management for new library implementations Use knowledge of the library environment to keep up to date with market monitoring and product awareness and development As a result we will see Kōtui and APNK continue to be critical platforms in the delivery of knowledge to New Zealanders The services remain sustainable and delivered in the most cost effective way Positive relationships with public libraries and their parent bodies Smooth operation of the services, particularly at the interface between libraries and the DIA Governing and Advisory bodies are able to make informed decisions based on sound reporting and advice. Vendors work as partners to deliver systems to agreed levels of service. Vendor product development is influenced by the needs and aspirations of Kōtui and the Australian consortia. Preferably managed this in a large library or been on the operational vendor side working closely with libraries. Experience in working in collaborative frameworks or consortia is desirable. Knowledge: Knows and understands the political, strategic and operational possibilities and constraints within which public libraries operate Understands the data and digital content possibilities for libraries; keeps up-to-date with rapidly changing world of Library IT Skills: Self-motivated, achievement focussed, delivers results Organisational skills and time management Strong business acumen and timely decision making Other requirements: MLIS or a minimum of bachelor degree level in information management or information technology or related subject area Page 5 of 5
