3 Welcome to your future Hello and welcome to BP, my name is Alan Haywood, I am CEO of BP Supply and Trading. BP Supply and Trading connects BP to the world s traded markets for oil, gas, power, refinery feedstocks and currencies. Many years ago I was in your shoes, trying to decide which career path to follow. I fully appreciate there are a number of decisions to make, not least which industry or organisation to join. Here at BP Supply and Trading we believe our people are our greatest asset and, to ensure we bring different perspectives to the business, we continue to identify talented graduates from a wide range of subjects. Join the BP Supply and Trading team and you'll be helping oil and gas to flow through BP, by selling what we produce and buying it for our refineries. As BP s face to the traded markets, BP Supply and Trading combines all our oil, gas, power, emissions, chemicals and finance trading activities. In fact, over 80% of the worldwide turnover flows through BP Supply and Trading, which means you'll be involved in a major part of our diverse global business. As the world's energy market moves away from its traditional base in the western hemisphere to areas such as Brazil, India, China, Africa and the Middle East, we're doing the same. We now have 3,000 people spread across four trading hubs in London, Houston, Chicago and Singapore, as well as regional offices in 28 countries. 280 of these individuals are traders, while the others are involved in analytics, strategy, operations, IT, HR, marketing, business development, finance and risk. We believe our high ethical standards give us a long-term competitive edge, as we build local partnerships with national oil companies. But we need local expertise in these regions people from different backgrounds with a variety of specialisms who understand the local markets, companies, relationships and cultures. Xin Yi s view of how to contribute at BP I really like this role as I get to speak to a lot of people, for example the traders, to find out what they re doing. I studied accounting at university but I wanted to go into something different a bit more exciting. Trading seemed like a good fit. It may still be a male-dominated industry, but BP is making a conscious effort to foster female leaders, so I m really looking forward to becoming a trader at the end of the programme. 6

6 We take a truly global outlook. Where could we take your career? With oil businesses in the Americas, Asia and Europe and gas businesses in North America and Europe, including our Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) offering in Europe, we're a worldwide business. So, join us and you could be involved in a wide range of stimulating work. For example, we sell everything our exploration and production teams bring out of the ground and buy all that goes into our refining systems, airports, and retail sites. We also sell the surplus on the global markets, using our entrepreneurial skills to gain extra income. On top of this, we trade anything that goes across a traded platform, from foreign exchange and interest rates to emissions, biofuels and their derivatives, which are used to make agricultural products. We do all this trading through five main offices. Calgary, Chicago and Houston cover the Americas, we oversee Europe and North Africa from London and Singapore covers the Middle East, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. As one of the world's biggest physical traders of oil and gas, we find the best market opportunities for BP's crude oil, our refineries' products and upstream gas. This means we have a broad range of assets, including refineries, ships, tanks, pipelines and retail systems. In fact, our trading teams keep us at the top of the global energy sector, focusing on safety, reliability and operational excellence. The company really gives people the opportunity to develop themselves. Li Ang's view of learning at BP I trade in ultra-low sulfur diesel in the Far East. This involves dealing with refiners, traders and majors in the market, as well as BP teams in Australia, London and Chicago. It's all about making the right market calls, physical optimization and arbitrage opportunities, as well as understanding factors that can affect the markets. It's enjoyable, challenging, interactive and fast-paced work. But what I enjoy most is the people. It s enabled me to see the economy at much more of a macro level, which has really helped my understanding of how markets work. I m really interested in being engaged in commodity markets, keeping up with what s going on and playing my part in the global economy. And one day I hope to put everything I ve learnt about the energy market into action on the trading benches. In the four months that I ve been with BP, I ve learnt more than seven programming languages. Energy and technology are the two main things in my life. I grew up in one of the biggest cities in Indonesia. It suffers from frequent load shedding, and every day we would have 4-8 hours without electricity. So I determined at a very young age to contribute to the energy sector in some way. At university, I realised I could combine my two passions by going into this industry as a software developer. I have always had a passion for building things, to engineer something that can impact other people s lives, whether in their daily lives or in their day jobs. Each one involves a series of rotations, designed to enable you to develop the skills, knowledge and expertise you need to take our business forward. 10 Our programmes Trading In our trading teams we buy and sell the physical and financial commodities that increase profits. It's about keeping exposure and risk to a minimum, while working ethically and complying with regulations. So, on these programmes, you'll learn about essential trading tools, futures and derivatives, production processes, supply economics and much more, so you're wellprepared to succeed in our business. Trading Operations In Trading Operations we manage the movement of cargo associated with oil trades. So, we're the ones our trading benches and the BP group turn to for specialist knowledge and functional expertise. We support every physical trade from beginning to end, managing risk to ensure they re achieved safely and deliver maximum value to the business. On this programme, you ll start to build your commercial acumen, negotiation and communication skills, problem solving and team working ability. You'll also develop your understanding of the oil industry by being at the heart of it. Commercial We need to make sure we get the most from the billions of dollars we invest each year in searching for new sources of energy and supplying our customers with the fuels they need. That's where our commercial teams come in. Join this programme and you'll enjoy the chance to work in a fast-paced commercial environment and contribute to long-term business decisions. With access to the training and networks you need to build your commercial knowhow, you'll soon be making your mark on our long-term business future. Marketing & Origination Developing and maintaining customer relationships and ensuring we continue to build value from our natural gas assets - that's what you'll be doing on this programme. It's about building and maintaining long-term customer relationships and helping to develop our financial offers. So, you'll enjoy contributing to negotiations, looking at future opportunities and working with people from a variety of backgrounds. Analytics On the analytics programme you ll directly influence our bottom line as part of the oil or gas team, advising traders on market trends and reliable options to take. You'll offer insights into trading, marketing activities, planning and strategy and analyse potential customer deals. This will help you to build your understanding of value and how to break down problems into their separate parts, so you can play your part in our continued growth and trading success. On this programme, you'll gain a broad range of experience through a variety of challenging rotations. Working in different teams, you'll gain direct experience of how we support BP Supply and Trading activities. And this will give you a thorough understanding of how important finance, risk and compliance are to our global business. With rotations in operational excellence, accounting reporting, and control and commodity risk, you'll be delivering real commercial benefits and measurable results. Technology IT systems, software and architecture touch every part of our business, from supporting accounting functions and our global trading teams, to controlling pipelines. Our technology programme will continuously test your technical and personal skills.
