I hope that your experience during the interview and what you know about our organization helps you decide to join us as we tackle Human Capital issues across the entire span of HR functions. I certainly look forward to working closely with you to establish preliminary assignments with our established client companies and new clients as well. We re glad you are joining us! N. 2 Simulation Introduction and Instructions Student, congratulations on your new position as HR Generalist at, a small HR consulting group of ~20 professionals and support staff based in Nohweare, Virginia! HTA is an affiliate agency of Mace/Maxwell, a multinational consulting conglomerate with offices across the world. This means that you work directly for HTA, which is supported by a larger organization that provides some of the tools and infrastructure that HTA needs to be competitive (HRIS, selection systems, OD&T, systems analysis, etc.). Your responsibilities will be focused on both established clients who outsource some or all of their HR functions, as well as going to sales meetings to win new clients who are looking for outsourcing assistance with HR functions. Your primary responsibilities: Designing Recruiting and Selection processes for client companies Compensation Analysis for client companies Planning, Implementing and Evaluating training programs for client companies Creating Performance Evaluations for client companies Supporting Employee Relations and Risk Management functions for client companies You report directly to Mr. Fyrham who is the owner and Executive Director of HTA. You should create a presentation to address the following problems as you would present to your supervisors. Contact your instructor to confirm how many simulations are due for this course. You should expect your presentation(s) to take about 10 minutes each, and you must do your best to address all the issues in the situation(s) in the time allotted. The choice of visual aid is up to you and the discretion of your professor. You will be graded on: Addressing all the issues in the simulation: did you propose a reasonable solution for the problem(s)? Critical thinking: did you approach the issues from a Strategic HR perspective? Presentation Quality: did you create and deliver a professional presentation? Contact your instructor to confirm how many points each presentation will be worth.

I Recruitment & Selection Your Supervisor came to you with 2 separate projects related to Selection. See the below: From: hiram@humantouch.com Subject: Staffing Projects Student, we have a couple of priority projects that we need you to get started on right away. First, we need to develop an employment test for Image Makers, our client that operates a chain of photography booths in stores and malls across the Southeast US. Image Makers wants to test their job candidates for the following: Knowledge of Photography Creative Photographic Ability Ability to sell and upsell photo packages to customers Second, we need an interview guide the School Director job title at The Baby Place, our client that operates preschools in Southeastern Virginia. For this, just proposing 2-3 interview questions with a scoring rubric should suffice A couple of things to know: Image Makers has 70 locations in 6 states, with approximately 120 photographers. They are hiring regularly. Any test(s) developed should be easy to administer online. The Baby Place has one director at each of their 10 locations, and has relatively low turnover, but they do have 2 positions open right now. Turnaround on these is next week. Let me know if you have any questions, and thanks! Looking forward to what you come up with to present to the team.

II Compensation Your boss came to you with a compensation project: From: hiram@humantouch.com Subject: Compensation Projects Student, One of our client companies, IntelaTouch, a technology and software development company is trying to avoid layoffs since they have had a downturn in business. They have asked us to help them with a new severance package to offer to some of their employees who are either considering retirement or considering leaving this could help avoid a layoff situation. Can you propose an attractive retirement/severance package that will allow IntelaTouch to decrease their workforce without losing the intellectual and social capital they have in their most experienced employees? A couple of things to know: Anything goes (as long as it is realistic) as far as offering retirement/severance pay, benefits and perks to those employees who might be interested in early retirement or leaving for a new opportunity. Anyone with at least 15 years at the company could be eligible for early retirement but you have to be careful not to single out only older employees, since this could violate the ADEA. Anyone with no more than 2 years at the company could be eligible for a severance package. Looking forward to what you come up with! Let me know if you have questions!

From: Subject: Training Project Student, III Training & Development One of our major clients Settlecreek Resort has asked us to help them create a service training program for all of their hotel and restaurant employees. I remember you told me that you had some experience in that area, and I thought you might be a great fit to help develop the program. They are looking for a maximum 3 day long program for their new service employees. Would you put together your ideas for how this might work and be ready to present it - first to our own team - then to the decision makers at Settlecreek next week? In your presentation, be sure to discuss: How you will plan, develop and design the training How you will implement the training (time, methods, location, etc.) How you will evaluate the training to demonstrate that it had strategic value to the resort A couple of things to know: Right now, there is no formal training in place for service new employees are informally trained by their supervisors or peers while on the job. Training should include things like how to serve customers as well as an orientation to Settlecreek systems for completing service needs (e.g., using reservation and ordering systems, taking payments, etc.) Thanks for your work on this. Let me know if you have any questions!

From: Subject: 360 Feedback Project Student, IV Performance Evaluation We have a prospective new client who is looking for a 360ᵒ feedback system. Sunshine Fishing Charters is a company that runs large fishing boat tours from almost every major beach in the Virginia/Carolinas region. They want to evaluate their Ship s Mate job title and get multiple perspectives on how their Ship s Mates are doing. Ship s Mates at Sunshine Fishing Charters are basically the second in command to the captains of the fishing boats. They have some responsibilities for driving the boats, helping guests, supervising other employees and doing almost everything a captain does and more. There are usually 2 Ship s Mates on each boat, sometimes 3 on the largest boats, which may have as many as passengers on a full tour. Can you put together a proposal that we can share with this client to win their business? Obviously you can share it with the team first for our feedback and then we will take it to the prospective client next week. A couple things to know: There are multiple evaluators possible for a 360 feedback system in this situation You ll also need to propose how the feedback should be weighted. You ll probably want to provide some examples of how the feedback/evaluation tool(s) will look Let me know if you have questions on this! Thank you!
