1 ELECTRICIAN The City of Whitefish, Montana is seeking a full-time Electrician for the Public Works Department. This full-time non-exempt position requires a High School diploma or GED equivalent, graduation from an approved apprenticeship program, Montana Licensed Master Electrician, four (4) years of practical experience as an electrician, and four (4) years of experience with decorative street lighting, or any equivalent combination of related education and experience. 2 CITY OF WHITEFISH An Equal Opportunity Employer POSITION DESCRIPTION Class Title: Electrician Range: 22 Department: Public Works FLSA Status: Non-Exempt GENERAL PURPOSE: Performs master level electrical work as required to maintain, install, repair or alter electrical systems in accordance with standard practices of the electrical trade. May be assigned to perform tasks in City buildings or facilities (water plant, wastewater plant, and lift stations), street lights or field installation. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the guidance and direction of the Public Works Director/City Engineer. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Occasional supervision of temporary field staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs skilled electrical installation, maintenance, and repair work involving municipal facilities, buildings, and street lighting systems. Troubleshoots, locates, and repairs circuit and equipment malfunctions. Performs preventive maintenance on street lighting, electrical systems, motors, pumps, and equipment, which includes the safe operation of an aerial bucket truck and large construction equipment. Perform periodic energy audits of City facilities and coordinate energy conservation measures to ensure optimal operation of City facilities. Inspects newly installed electrical equipment and lighting to ensure safe operation as well as code compliance. Maintains accurate records of work performed, materials used, and associated costs. Repairs or replaces defective or worn electrical parts, components, and controlling software in electrical systems and devices, circuits, electrical motors, generators, lift stations & pumps, controllers, heating and air conditioners, lighting systems, and other fixtures and equipment. 3 Responds to citizen and customer inquiries or complaints; responds to emergency calls after normal working hours. Performs associated work including digging, trenching, occasional concrete finishing and removal, and lifting electrical equipment, conduit and pipe; designs and installs new electrical apparatus and associated parts as part of new construction projects; reviews plans for new construction. Maintains regular contact with consulting engineers, construction project engineers, City, County, State and Federal agencies, professional and technical groups and the general public regarding activities and services. PERIPHERAL DUTIES: Considerable Knowledge of electricity and its application to the operation of motors, lift stations, pumps, controllers, circuit boards, switch gears, relays, telemeters, and other electrical equipment. Considerable knowledge of the National Electrical Code and its applications and relevant City codes. Considerable knowledge of the appropriate practices and procedures used in the installation and maintenance of electrical systems. Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions. Ability to research needs or problems and prepare reports. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid State of Montana driver's license or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment. Must possess a valid State of Montana Master Electrician License. Must be physically capable of moving about on construction work sites and under adverse field conditions. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Small hand tools, ladders, bucket truck, personal computer, including word processing, spreadsheet, and data base and computer-aided-design software; motor vehicle; networked phone system and cell phone; mobile radio, camera; standard office equipment including fax machine and copier.
