1 Job Description Job Title: Lead Specialist, Instructional Design Reports to: Director, Online Learning FLSA Status: Exempt Level: 213 Position Class: Job Summary: This position provides responsibility for the oversight and management of all aspects of instructional design support and training. Provides leadership, expertise, and creativity to support and inspire faculty in successfully integrating technology into online, blended, and technologically enhanced courses. Assists, trains, and facilitates faculty efforts to provide equal or superior outcomes for online and blended courses in achieving standard learning outcomes. The Lead Specialist, Instructional Design is expected to have a comprehensive understanding of the many and varied software applications and technologies available to support learning in all disciplines, with emphasis on ensuring ADA compliance for online courses through applications of technology. Applicants may be asked to demonstrate any or all of the following duties: 1. Guides faculty in the design or redesign and development of course goals, content and instructional strategies and activities for web enhanced and fully on-line courses. 2. Assists faculty in evaluating learning outcomes for ongoing revision and improvement of technology-enabled or enhanced instruction. 3. Assists the Director, Online Learning in the development of a comprehensive Faculty Development Program to encourage the appropriate application of technology in the online, blended, and technologically enhanced classroom. 4. Develops and teaches online certification courses for faculty professional development, as well as mini-courses, workshops, and one-on-one consulting with faculty for developing courses and course components for electronic delivery. 2 5. Coordinates instructional design activities, training schedule and related activities. Supports Faculty in their experimentation and use of current academic web and multimedia development software and interactive learning techniques. 6. Supervises, evaluates, and coaches Instructional Design staff. 7. Assists with the development and design of on-line courses for leadership development programs for administrators and staff. 8. Coordinates with Faculty Professional Development to assess professional development needs for technology training and coordinates scheduling. 9. Assists the Director, Online Learning with development, implementation, and continuing evaluation of appropriate LMS template design, implementation, and faculty training. 10. Acts as backup to LMS Administrator for handling routine LMS housekeeping tasks and routine troubleshooting. 11. Researches and evaluates commercially produced software and courseware. 12. Remains current with technological advances and changes in instructional design technologies. 13. Performs other duties as assigned. Job Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education/Experience: Master s degree from a regionally accredited institution and three years experience, integrating technology into the teaching/learning process. Demonstrated knowledge of multimedia instructional technologies (especially the web), distance education, and instructional design and assessment methodologies. Demonstrated ability to design, create, and deliver instructional materials using appropriate development tools, and to train and lead faculty in these endeavors. Supervisory Experience: Two or more years of direct supervisory experience with responsibility for hiring, firing, training and evaluating. Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional/scientific journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public. Job Description Page 2 of 5

3 Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform calculations on standard measures of American currency and weight, volume, and distance. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to work with formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc. Computer Skills: Advanced knowledge of Windows and Apple operating systems; advanced knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, , Internet, presentation, and College database software, course management systems (such as Angel, Blackboard), course management system administrator applications and tools, web development software; Web conferencing; imaging software and hardware; computer integration with a variety of audio visual equipment; projection systems; audio and video systems; switchers. Must possess a comprehensive understanding of the many and varied software applications and technologies available to support learning in all disciplines. Certificates and Licenses: None required. Responsibility for People and Property: This position provides supervision to the Specialist, Instructional Design position. Responsibility for Communication: Internal Contacts: Routine contact with students, and all levels of SCF faculty and staff ; frequent contact with other SCFadministrative and support departments. External Contacts: Routine contact with the vendors and other colleges; occasional contact with professional organizations, general public, and professionals appropriate for discipline.
