5 Do You Know Job Stress: the harmful physical and emotional responses that occur when the requirements of the job do not match the capabilities, resources, or needs of the worker. Of the 80% of workers that report "extreme stress" on the job, nearly half, 50 percent, say they need help in learning how to manage stress. Each day, an estimated one million workers are absent due to stress Job stress is estimated to cost American companies more than $300 billion a year in health costs, absenteeism and poor performance. Employees often spend 12-hour days on work related duties and half of those surveyed frequently skip lunch because of the stress of job demands. Source: American Institute of Stress.
