1 Primary Care Advantage: enabling GP Practices to thrive together Drawing on our extensive experience and understanding of the challenges faced by GPs, Cripps has developed the Primary Care Advantage programme which enables GPs to build sustainable, efficient and collaborative alliances to deliver new models of care. This aligns with the NHS Five Year Forward View and prepares GP practices for funding within Integrated Care Systems.

2 Why form a federation? There are several attractions to forming a federation including the ability to: share costs; share skills and resources; expand facilities; offer extended access; and, have a louder voice in the local health economy. However, to succeed, everyone must share the same vision. Our approach Primary Care Advantage follows a five-step approach: 1. Current state 2. Future state 3. Gap analysis 4. Organisation creation 5. Building a sustainable future. Delivered through a series of workshops, we will take you through each stage of the process and work with you to create a flexible, fair and progressive organisation for the future. The workshops involve all key stakeholders and are carried out over an intensive timetable to ensure momentum is kept. A secure on-line forum is established so that discussions can continue between workshops. Also imperative to success is wider stakeholder engagement with the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Integrated Care Systems (ICS). The benefits By adopting this inclusive approach, everyone will have: A shared vision of what can be achieved which cannot be achieved alone, and why you want to achieve it An understanding of the legal requirements of operating as a federation A flexible structure to drive future growth and enable the federation to have a stronger voice and greater influence in the ICS. The practices within our CCG were initially sceptical of the benefits of forming an Alliance. However the workshops run by Cripps guided us on a journey from a group of GPs focusing solely on our own practices to a point where we could all see the benefits of working together, both for our patient population and the stability of our practices. The workshops were informal and allowed everyone to voice their concerns in a safe environment and, by the end, it really felt that we had come to a solution that was specific to the needs of our area and would benefit everyone. GP, Berkshire Over a series of workshops, Cripps developed the team from which trusted leaders emerged, and a structure for the organisation was formed which everyone understood and fitted with their purpose. From my previous experience of working with lawyers, we found this approach refreshingly different and the benefits are clearly evident. I have been impressed by their knowledge of the issues facing GPs and their commitment to not only see the Alliance form but be built to succeed, which shows a depth of interest and commitment beyond many advisers. 4 The process Step 1: Current state In this step we get to know you, your strengths and the value that can be gained through collaboration, exploring: The structure of the NHS How GP practices fit and their central role Identifying key organisations locally Understanding what can be offered and received from other practices and organisations. Step 3: Gap analysis Step 2: Future state A key element of success is understanding your goals, and in the second stage we explore these aspects by looking back from the future. What is your vision for the future? How can you get there? How can you remodel your practice and work alongside others? By this stage we know where you are now and where you want to get to and can start identifying the practicalities of getting there by: Determining the gaps in skills and resources Identifying what more is needed. Step 4: Organisation creation We are now starting to look at what your future organisation might look like, and explore: Step 5: Building a sustainable future In this final stage, we will help you identify and put in place the steps you need to take to ensure success going forwards. The different legal structures Advantages and disadvantages of different structures What s appropriate for your needs. Putting in place a business plan Defining roles and responsibilities Agreeing short and long-term initiatives Creating a governance handbook.

5 Pricing We take a flexible and transparent approach to pricing and, in order to provide you with some certainty, we will agree a fixed price for your tailored programme. The number of practices involved in the alliance and any specific requirements you may have will have an impact on the cost. We can also flex this as you go. For example, you may find that you want to add in additional workshops to explore certain areas. Or, at a later stage you may decide you d like help to implement key elements of your business plan so we d support and advise as you negotiate contracts and joint venture agreements to provide services.
