Elyria Works Now is a new collaboration of Elyria, Ohio based partners of industry, education, government, non-profit, for-profit, and faith-based stakeholders that are banding together to provide Elyrians better access to higher paying jobs in target industries. Elyria Works Now (EWN) provides participants with connectivity, support, education, training and access to employers who have committed to hiring goals, screen in and family-friendly policies, and working with community partners to remove barriers to employment and provide integrated wrap-around services that respond to Individualized Development and Career Plans. JOB DESCRIPTION: POSITION: Elyria Works Now Career Coach, Contract Services Stipend: $5, Hours at $20 per hour REPORTS TO: Elyria Works Now Program Manager JOB DESCRIPTION: The Elyria Works Now Career Coach is one of four Career Coaches responsible for assisting Elyria Works Now participants with navigating program services, needs-related resource connections, and entry into employment in targeted industries. The Career Coach serves a number of populations including: graduating high school seniors without career plans; the under-employed; veterans; unemployed who are seeking work; low-skilled or wage workers; and individuals with criminal backgrounds that are reentering the workforce. The Career Coach aims to demonstrate the value and efficacy of well-thought-out approaches to incorporating safety net services, mentoring, soft skills and industry-specific trainings, vocational and continuing education, job placement, job coaching and career advancement in ways that make obtaining consistent, gainful employment in areas that pay a living wage more accessible to these groups. The Career Coach will work closely with the Elyria Works Now Program Manager, other Coaches, the targeted industry representatives, and partner outreach, development and service delivery teams to identify and match participants with opportunities that result in milestone employment achievements and measureable outcomes for both the program participants and the targeted industries. Important functions include providing individual and targeted assistance with professional development and preparation for employment;

2 identifying and connecting participants with safety net services and relationships, education, skills training, work-based training, and placement opportunities and documenting all communication and follow-up efforts with participants, partners and providers. Year one is considered a Pilot and will run from April December The target industry area is entry-level manufacturing, with three pilot manufacturers already identified. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Meet with target industry participants to develop a better understanding of their respective industries and their workforce development needs; maintain an accurate list of current entry-level job opportunities. Meet with EWN Partners and affiliated service providers to develop a better understanding of the program philosophy and services available to participants. Meet individually with participants to determine skill level, interest, barriers, industry experience and education and training needs. Guide participants through assessments and create individualized career and personal development plans. Assist with scheduling workshop attendance and enrollment into programs at partnering organizations to enhance job readiness and employability. Provide recruitment and placement assistance to partnering employers. Interface regularly with employers and gather feedback to aid in maintaining successful employment. Meet regularly with the Program Manager and EWN employers to match participants with opportunities. Assist with developing resumes and cover letters, identify opportunities for employment, and assist with application and interview processes. Assist with identifying professionals to participate in industry specific interview panels. Input and maintain participant information and progress in EWN. Input and maintain industry and referral information to EWN. Coordinate supports that will assist the participant with attendance and participation in program activities and make referrals to partnering agencies as appropriate. Other duties as assigned. RESPONSIBILITIES: Supports workforce development planning consistent with Elyria Works Now (EWN) mission of connecting Elyria residents with information, support services,

3 education and training, and living wage employment opportunities that help them meet the skill demands of Elyria employers; for the Pilot, identified manufacturers. Supports the development and implementation of EWN policies, procedures, participant and employer contracts, recruitment and marketing initiatives, and evaluation. Develops strong relationships and recruitment networks serving a number of populations including: graduating high school seniors without career plans; the under-employed; veterans; unemployed who are seeking work; low-skilled or wage workers; and individuals with criminal backgrounds that are re-entering the workforce. Assists the EWN Partners in identifying and developing a volunteer and paid employment safety net comprised of non-profit, educational and faith-based organizations that provide program services and needs-related resource connections including but not limited to: life coaching, job mentoring, vocational maturity, transportation, child care, financial literacy, academic literacy, soft skills development and more. Works with Pilot Employers and the Curriculum Designer to develop and provide appropriate core instruction specific to the industry that is augmented by additional career path information and education, as well as prescriptive services and assistance in areas of need as identified in Individual and Career Plans. Organizes outreach and helps identify and build strong working relationships with Pilot Companies; insures that all EWN participants are successfully matched with, supported, monitored and evaluated in the Pilot Companies and that Individual and Career Plans are being achieved. Visits Pilot Employer job sites and interacts with EWN participants, crew, foreman and others to ensure proper job progress and to encourage and support. Implements education and training programs for EWN participants, employers, volunteers and paid support providers. Assists EWN Partners in identifying, developing and implementing One-Stop Career Information Centers through the community. In unison with Career Coaches, conducts presentations in the community at high schools, vocational school, churches, non-profits and other organizations. Supervises four Career Coaches and all volunteer and paid support services individuals. Represents EWN upon request of the Mayor and Partners on workforce development issues. Other duties as requested by the Mayor and EWN Partners. EDUCATION/TRAINING:

4 Bachelor s degree preferred, associate degree and/or related experience in adult workforce development system, preferably in Lorain County, Ohio or, related experience in communications, marketing, psychology, human relations, social work or related field. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in an adult workforce development system or related field. Experience in and ability to quickly adapt to different working environments. Experience working in a mentoring or advising role. Exceptional interpersonal skills with: (1) a depth and breadth of understanding for the personal struggles and aspirations of all including members of at-risk and diverse populations; (2) ability to work with EWN Partners, program participants, employers, educators, and other community organizations; and (3) ability to work with leadership from a variety of sectors including business, labor, government, education, nonprofit, and the faith-based community. Solid verbal and written communication skills; comfortable as a public speaker. Ability to recognize strengths and weaknesses and develop approaches to assist individuals in bridging the gaps. Knowledge of workforce trends in Elyria, Ohio and Lorain County. Experience working to support and implement large-scale projects. Detail oriented, extremely organized and able to multitask. Good computer skills, preferably working with client-based database management systems. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evening and weekends. Comfortable working in onsite and offsite settings with others present who are mindful of safety and security. BENEFITS: This is a City of Elyria contract services position ($5,000 or 250 $20/hr) with no benefits that will begin in May 2018 and end December 31, The position will be re-evaluated after the Pilot Project and may be renewed and/or modified based on individual and program evaluation results.
