The post holder works within the Church and Community team and will be responsible for supporting local groups to diversify their fundraising and support them to run local community events. Role context The role holder will represent Christian Aid and its work to any audience and in any media within agreed policy positions. S/he will lead on community and events fundraising for the Scotland team and will work alongside colleagues to embed fundraising into churches, youth and advocacy work. The post holder will lead on national events such as the 3 bridge crosses, powerwalk and Loch Leven cycle, whilst also supporting local church organisers to develop their own fundraising initiatives. The post holder will be expected to be proactive in contacting people, including those from areas where fundraising is struggling, and be positive and enthusiastic about promoting alternative ways for people to engage with Christian Aid s work and fundraise for it. The role holder will be expected to bring a fundraising perspective to wider team initiatives. 1

2 Key outcomes Net income from all fundraising events in Scotland (nationally led and supporter led) is maximised. Eg CAW book sales, sponsored walks and cycles and other local events. Opportunities for new events are identified and initiatives are delivered as appropriate Where appropriate UK wide challenge event activity (eg Edinburgh marathon) is effectively delivered and Scotland specific ones are well managed Events fundraising initiatives are planned and effectively led during key moments such as CAW, harvest, lent and Christmas# Fundraising is embedded at wider team events, and advocacy is embedded in fundraising ones so that supporters get the opportunity to learn more about our work. Local supporters are supported and resourced to deliver local fundraising events Work alongside colleagues to grow events fundraising in Scotland by ensuring: supporters who are struggling with fundraising are supported to try new things; areas where activity has ceased are re-invigorated to try something else; youth work is considered at the planning stages of all events Contribute to the on-going work of the Scotland team Role requirements Relationships External Works with external suppliers and key contacts for organising events. Represents Christian Aid and its work to any audience and in any media within agreed policy positions. Communicates Christian Aid policy, aims, and ways of working to the local community. Internal The role holder liaises closely with colleagues in the Scotland team and works as part of the Church and Community team to deliver objectives within the Scotland team plan. The post holder will recruit and manage events volunteers as required and in line with Investing in Volunteers guidelines. The role holder will work closely with the Supporter relations team to ensure supporter date and income is processed accurately; and with the media and communications team to ensure that events are publicised effectively as possible and in good time. Person specification Applied skills/knowledge and expertise Essential Educated to degree level or equivalent Project management experience with particular emphasis on community or events fundraising initiatives Proven experience of generating income from fundraising events Event organisation with large participation numbers (over 100) Ability to motivate and inspire a variety of individuals and groups both formally and informally Experience of relationship and volunteers management Knowledge of fundraising legislation and regulations Knowledge of churches in their diversity Basic knowledge of global development issues Experience in dealing with Health & Safety and Risk Assessment Experience of a CRM and IT systems Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presenting at a senior level Ability to present clearly in public Highly numerate and able to manage complex budgets To be focussed on outcomes and delivery To work with people in a co-operative style To inspire and enthuse people to take action To work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends Desirable Post graduate degree qualification in Events Management Certificate in Fundraising or equivalent fundraising qualification IT competency required Intermediate 3
