1 Threatened Species Officer 12 Month Full-Time Position (Monday to Friday) The Nature Parks is an inspiring workplace and, as the largest employer on Phillip Island, offers a range of career paths. The Threatened Species will coordinate the implementation of an approved Threatened Species Plan and conduct fieldwork, collect data and maintain information systems associated with existing research programs on threatened species. To be successful in this position you will need to address the following criteria: Degree or postgraduate qualification in Biological Sciences or equivalent; Well developed understanding of threatened species conservation practices and scientific principles; Proven ability to conduct and coordinate field activities involving staff, students and volunteers; Experience in trapping and handling wildlife; Proven ability to manage competing priorities; and Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Established in 1996 by the State Government of Victoria, the Nature Parks manages over 1,805 hectares of Crown land which includes a variety of coastal reserves, wetlands, and woodlands. Each year the Nature Parks attract over 1.4 million visitors to our five world-class ecotourism attractions including the iconic Penguin Parade, the Antarctic Journey at the Nobbies Centre, Wild Oceans EcoBoat tours, the Koala Conservation Centre and Churchill Island Heritage Farm. This position will coordinate the implementation of an approved Threatened Species Plan and conduct fieldwork, collect data and maintain information systems associated with existing research programs on threatened species. JOB SPECIFICATION KEY RESPONSIBILITIES DUTIES Fieldwork Coordinate field monitoring of Eastern Barred Bandicoots (EBB) on Churchill Island and Phillip Island Conduct fieldwork to establish baseline information on habitat conditions, threatening processes and current faunal assemblage relevant to threatened species that are identified for reintroduction from the Threatened Species Plan Assist with Hooded Plover program Assist with coordinating wildlife monitoring using tools including camera traps

4 Coordinate implementation plan of identified threatened species Advice Assist with provision of technical advice to the Nature Parks Communication As required, formal presentations and updates to internal and external stakeholders Reports results direct to program managers in the conservation department Reporting Reports results direct to program managers in the conservation department Assist with preparation of reports to internal and external stakeholders and funding bodies Help prepare license and permit applications for introduction of species Duties Perform duties in accordance with directions of Research Manager and provisions of relevant legislation, policies and codes of practice Coordinate Coordinate the implementation of threatened species plan Coordinate volunteers assisting with the responsibilities of the position Research Support Undertake other roles for research projects as needed under direction of the Deputy Research Manager Assist with wildlife emergency responses as required Policies and Procedures Maintain understanding of current and developed policies and procedures Develop and update policies and procedures Ensure compliance of policies and procedures Health, Safety and Wellbeing Adhere to safe work method statements Comply with and follow OH&S work practices Identify and report workplace hazards Actively participate in safety and wellbeing activities Ensuring the safety of all employees, visitors and contractors In addition to the essential responsibilities and duties listed above, all positions are also responsible for: Promoting and respecting the practices of equal opportunity, diversity and equity in all the interactions at Nature Parks, which includes internal and external (visitors, contractors and volunteers) groups Meeting organisational standards in relation to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis in a manner that is in compliance with all of Nature Parks policies and procedures Represent and comply with organisational workplace behaviour, code of conduct and uniform attire Attending and participating in learning and development activities, meetings and maintaining up to date knowledge of activities and events occurring within the Nature Parks WORKING AND ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS Hours are full time, five days per week and will involve regular work at nights and on weekends. Additional hours will be required as per business requirements within term of the contract.
