1 SCOTTISH RUGBY UNION Action Plan Action Plan Update May 2017 Scottish Rugby s Action Plan set out the Goals, Actions and Performance Indicators Scottish Rugby sought to achieve over the plan period. Progress against this Plan has been regularly monitored by Scottish Rugby s internal Action Team, and the group s assessment of the progress being made has been documented in the attached schedules. A traffic light monitoring system has also been prepared for ease of reference. An overview of the key points is set out below. Status Update The Action Plan contained 40 Actions, all of which were due to be completed within the Plan period i.e. by 31 December As at the end of 2016 thirty four of these Actions had been fully completed (being 85% of the total). Of the remaining Actions, three related to preparation for the new Plan (Actions 6.1.1, and 6.1.3). During the early part of 2017 these Actions were completed and this Update has been prepared to reflect this change in the post-plan period. This leaves three Actions, all relating to Engagement with Black and Ethnic Minority Communities which were partially, but not yet fully, completed. These Actions numbers 1.2.1, and sought to ensure that Scotland s black and ethnic minority communities are fully engaged with the game. Progress has been made in this regard but there remains more to do. In summary, considerable progress was achieved over the Plan period - with the equality objectives Scottish Rugby set itself now substantially achieved (with 37 out of 40 wholly completed). Preparation is now underway for a new Plan to help take the game forward. This new Plan will build on the successes of the Action Plan Further Information The Scottish Rugby Outreach & and the Action Team are happy to provide such further information or detail as to the progress being made as may be required. 2 Goal 1: Improve research into under-represented groups and understanding of the issues and barriers faced by those groups Objective Action Responsibility Timeframe Performance Indicator Status 1.1 Identify and monitor the demographic profile of Scottish Rugby (including Board, Council, staff and the wider game). 1. Work with Scottish Disability Sport (SDS) to get a better understanding of, and advice for, inclusion opportunities with people with disabilities. 3 Goal 2: Develop and implement practices to increase access for under-represented groups Objective Action Responsibility Timeframe Performance Indicator Status Gender 2.1 Further improve the opportunities for women and girls to participate in rugby, and to succeed with the Scottish representative teams. 1. Develop a specific, measurable and realistic implementation plan in support of the strategy paper A future for Women s Rugby in Scotland, with particular reference to: a. Establishment of a Scottish Women s Rugby Advisory Board; b. Appointment of a Women s Rugby; c. Growth of girls and women s rugby in schools and clubs; A girls and women s rugby Strategy Paper was taken to the Board and Council in Q It was agreed to fast track the proposals and during Q a Working Group asked to address the implementation issues associated with the paper. (3) 14 new U12 teams and 26% increase in girl s teams in 2015/16 compared to 2014/15 (4) New competitions for 2016/17 season- Presidents

4 Conference at U15 and U18, Schools Cup and North Women s League d. Increased support for women s representative teams; and e. Increased finance for Women s Rugby. Health and Disability 2.2 Further improve the opportunities for those with specific disabilities to participate in rugby. 1. Improve the Membership section of the website to highlight the ability of disability sports clubs to join the SRU. Q Website updated.. 2. Raise the level of disability awareness amongst the development team. Schools & Youth / Head of Club Services By Q All development staff to undergo SDS disability awareness training. 3. 5 Edinburgh and Glasgow (2) Scottish Rugby provided kit for The Clan to attend Mixed Ability Rugby World Tournament in Bradford in August 2015 (3) Scottish Rugby supported Get Onside rugby delivered at Murrayfield Wanderers for people who use social work services. 4. Increase support to wheelchair rugby. Club Services Q Wheelchair rugby support plan produced. e.g. Dundee Dragons and Caledonian Crushers are associate member clubs of SRU. Glasgow Panthers linked to Glasgow East Rugby Club. Video and materials on website. Kit provided for wheelchair 7 s to participate in world alternative games 2016 Ethnicity 2.3 Further improve the opportunities for those from under represented ethnic groups to participate in rugby. 1. Sexual Orientation 2.6 Ensure Scottish Rugby s policies reflect best practice within Scottish Sport. 1. Monitor ongoing work being undertaken by sportscotland into the Scottish LGBT Sports Charter and reflect outcomes in Plan. Q Awaiting sportscotland outcomes. Other activities have included e.g. ongoing work with Caledonian Thebans (support of annual coaching clinic and Bingham Cup bid). 7 Goal 3: Raise awareness and understanding of equality for all involved in Scottish Rugby through recruitment, training and education Objective Action Responsibility Timeframe Performance Indicator Status Recruitment and HR Policies 3.1 Ensure that key recruitment and associated policies continue reflect equality legislation and the objectives of the Action Plan 1.
