1 RECRUITMENT 2013 Candidates will be voted onto the board starting September Individuals, who are interested in the mission of KCSARC, bring skills that will benefit the Board and Agency, and represent communities that align with KCSARC s clients and the overall county population, are invited to submit an application for consideration. Applications are reviewed and those who meet initial requirements are invited to attend a board meeting in order to acquaint the prospective board member with current members and board functions. Additional conversations with the prospect will likely occur during this time between the Board Recruitment Committee and the Executive Director. 2 RECRUITMENT 2013 The King County Sexual Assault Resource Center (KCSARC) seeks individuals for membership on the Board of Directors. SKILLS & ABILITIES Skills and abilities sought include: Finance Marketing Public Relations Strategic Planning Fundraising Experience Prior Board Experience SECTORS Seeking individuals from the following sectors: Technology Related Healthcare Communications Finance Education (Higher Education & K-12) Government Faith Communities DIVERSITY We are seeking individuals: From various racial and ethnic communities in King County. 3 JOB DESCRIPTION OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY The Board of Directors is responsible for determining the mission of KCSARC and for setting overall governing policies. The Executive Director reports to the Board and is accountable for all the activities undertaken by staff. DUTIES Each Director will perform the duties of a Director, including the duties as a member of any committee of the board upon which the Director may serve, in good faith, in a manner that the trustee believes to be in the best interests of KCSARC, and with such care, including reasonable inquiry, as an ordinarily prudent person in a like position would use under similar circumstances. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES Governance: Assures the continued legal and corporate existence of KCSARC. Responsible for adopting bylaws and ensuring that KCSARC operates within them. Adopts policies that determine purposes, governing principles, functions, activities and courses of action of KCSARC. Assumes ultimate responsibility for adopting internal policies governing KCSARC. Finance: Understands, authorizes and approves an annual budget and an annual audit. Creates and upholds financial policies so that sufficient funds are available to meet organizational objectives. Leads by example in fundraising activities. Sets appropriate parameters for the Executive Director to operate within the budget and monitors the Executive Director s compliance. Personnel: Selects, employs, annually evaluates, retains (or replaces) the Executive Director. Sets executive limitations for the Executive Director regarding the administration of personnel. Participates in recruitment, selection, orientation, and development of Board members. Public and Community Relations: Gives sponsorship and prestige to KCSARC and inspires confidence in its services. Understands and interprets the work of KCSARC to the community. Cooperates in focusing on the issues of sexual assault in the community. November 14, 2012 Board of Directors Job Description Page 1 of 2

4 Requirements: Interest in responding to and preventing sexual assault and abuse. Experience and/or interest in relevant areas such as: governance, finance, fundraising, personnel, program evaluation, lobbying and legislative work, communications and public relations, marketing and sales, responding to minority or marginalized populations or underserved communities where issues of sexual assault and abuse are insufficiently addressed. Welcoming of human diversity. Consistent attendance and participation at regular Board activities, including monthly Board meetings, committee activities as necessary, and the annual Board retreat. Time and Financial Commitment: Attend and come prepared to regular monthly Board meetings, and committee meetings as needed. Be available for consultation to other members of the Board and the Executive Director. Represent KCSARC at public functions and/or hearings as appropriate. Contribute to KCSARC as a major donor (major donors are individuals who contribute in excess of $1000 annually). Serve for a minimum of 3 years.
