The Australian Museum provides access, engagement and scientific research to increase our understanding of natural history and culture, particularly of the Australasian region. The Australian Museum holds 18.5 million objects of biological, geological and cultural collections and develops programs, exhibitions and activities onsite, online and offsite. The Australian Museum s mission is to inspire exploration, understanding and care for our world and it was founded in 1827 as the first museum in Australia. Primary purpose of the role The Building Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the effective management of the Museum's built assets and major plant. In addition, the position ensures the effective day to day management of the Museum s cleaning contract. Key accountabilities Supervise cleaning contract to ensure cleaning services are delivered as contracted. Undertake accommodation refurbishments and relocations as required Administer allocated contracts associated with Building Services and Security functions Monitor all contractors to ensure compliance with work safety requirements Monitor all plant and equipment to ensure effective operation Responsible for the daily oversight of the Building Management System (BMS) including programming of air conditioning and monitoring of alarms Programming of PABX and Voice mail system 1

2 Responsible for following, maintaining and implementing all NSW Government procurement policies and guidelines as well as following NSW Government documentation and archiving standards. Key challenges Ensuring effective supervision of multiple maintenance contractors engaged by the Museum and, in particular, the cleaning contract. Primary emphasis is on the monitoring and enforcement of Workplace Health and Safety compliance of the contractors Working with people from a broad range of disciplines and, at times, managing conflicting agendas and approaches Ensuring that procurement processes are compliant with Government policies, meet Museum specific needs, minimize risk, are cost effective and meet all probity requirements Key relationships Who Internal Why Manager Escalate issues, keep informed, advise and receive instructions Work Team Participate in meetings to share information and project programming Participate in discussions and decisions regarding the effective delivery of maintenance contracts Role dimensions Decision making The position has reasonable autonomy to undertake the day to day operation of the maintenance program to ensure the efficient and cost effective achievement of the Unit s objectives, and carries out duties as agreed with immediate manager. Experience in the operation of maintenance programs for public buildings and their associated plant. 2. Adequate knowledge and experience in order to deliver the Key Accountabilities and perform to the Focus Capabilities outlined in this Role Description 3.
