1 BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT OFFICER We are keen to appoint a colleague who can make a substantial contribution as a Behaviour Support Officer within the Academy. I hope the enclosed information is helpful and that you will share our aspirations for a high quality education for each of our students. This is an outstanding opportunity for a committed professional to make a significant contribution to the continued growth and development of Landau Forte Academy QEMS. You should note that this role also includes being a Personal Tutor for a vertically aged group of students. There will be a strong emphasis on the relationships between staff, students and parents; the Personal Tutor is the first point of contact with the family. 2 BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT OFFICER Overview Behaviour Support is a role specific to the Inclusion Team. The team provides essential support for students across the curriculum. Wherever possible and appropriate, students are supported within mainstream learning. However, there are times when individual students require additional support, especially with managing their own behaviours. The Academy seeks to meet the needs of all of our students including those who are vulnerable or those who can be challenging. Person Specification The type of person we are looking for will be enthusiastic and committed to working with young people who are faced with learning and/or behavioural difficulties. He or she will be resilient, possess a sense of humour, be able to keep a sense of proportion and, importantly, be able to work within a team environment and be able to show that they can act on their own initiative. The successful candidate will help to resolve day-to-day behavioural issues, work closely with Heads of House to improve attendance, liaise with external agencies when appropriate and provide long term support to some of our harder to reach students. This will necessitate developing strong, honest relationships with tutors, students and their families. Specific Skills and Abilities The desire and ability to support individual students in meeting their needs The ability to coach students who have behavioural difficulties To write and maintain accurate records including Behavioural Education Plans You will need to be literate, numerate and articulate with the interpersonal skills necessary to engage and build strong professional relationships with young people and their families Excellent personal organisational skills Adaptable with a good sense of humour and be able to take the initiative A very good team worker with the capacity to build relationships at all levels across the organisation Qualifications and Experience Evidence of successful employment and education. All relevant education and employment experiences will be considered. This is a significant and challenging role and applicants will need to demonstrate in their application how their experiences prepare them for this role.

3 The Role of Support Staff A In fulfilling your general responsibilities you should: 1. Ethos and Culture. Contribute positively towards upholding and promoting the ethos and culture of the Academy. 2. Policy and Practice. Implement Academy policies, procedures and improvement plans. 3. Self Evaluation and Improvement Planning. Fully participate, as requested, in the processes of self evaluation and improvement planning. B In fulfilling your support duties and responsibilities you should: 1. Expertise and Support. Support the work of the Tutorial Staff, Senior Leadership Team and Principal by providing expertise and/or support for one (or more) aspects: Curriculum, teaching and learning. Student care, support, welfare and guidance. Library and Information Centre. General administration. Finance. Restaurant. Site and buildings. Personal Assistant or Secretary to members of the Academy Executive Leadership Team 2. Student Learning. With other staff directly or indirectly support the learning and achievement of students across the whole Academy 3. Student Care and Well Being. With other staff directly or indirectly support the social development and well-being of students across the Academy 4. Planning. When requested contribute to the production, implementation, review and evaluation of team and Academy Improvement Plans and budgets C In respect of reviewing and developing your performance you should: 1. Performance. Actively participate in the Academy Staff Review and Development process. This will include an annual performance review against the framework of your role plus any specific objectives previously agreed. Where appropriate the review may lead to a re-designation of responsibilities in the interests of students, staff and the efficient operation of the Academy 2. Development. Work collaboratively with Team Leaders, the Senior Leadership Team and the Principal in ensuring that all staff are fully trained and equipped for their role D In respect of the Learning Environment you should: 1. Fabric and Furniture. Monitor the use of learning and work spaces, adjacent circulation spaces and stairwells to ensure that they are safe, attractive, clean, tidy and well maintained. (Any matters relating to cleanliness, vandalism or graffiti should be reported promptly so that they can be dealt with before matters deteriorate further)

4 E In respect of the involvement and participation of partners from Business, Industry, Education and the wider community you should: 1. Ensure that our interaction with industry, parents, students and members of the community is professional and ensures they feel welcomed and valued as customers leading to the provision of a high quality service F Accountability 1. In the first instance you are accountable to your team leader for the above role and for additional specified responsibilities In fulfilling your Personal Tutoring and Support duties and responsibilities you should: 1. Care and Support Provide high quality care and support for a group of students, fully implementing the Academy's philosophy and policy concerning the role of Personal Tutor 2. Partnership Actively promote the partnership between the home and Academy through regular contact/meetings with parents/carers and students In addition responsibilities may be delegated in line with experience, expertise and designated role within the Academy. Please note this job description is complementary to the Support Staff Contract and Terms and Conditions of Employment for Landau Forte Academy Summary of Terms and Conditions Academy Contract Working Days Normal working hours are 8.15am 5.15pm Monday to Thursday and 8.15am 3.30pm on Friday. Terms and Conditions The Academy is a state funded independent organisation receiving an annual grant directly from the Department of Education. The Academy operates Terms and Conditions of Employment which seek to fully recognise and reward the particular roles of the tutorial and support staff. The salary agreed with the successful candidate will reflect the importance of this appointment and the expertise and experience of the candidate. Salaries take account of experience, expertise, role and responsibilities; they are reviewed in August of each year and are payable from 1 September. In addition to salary the Academy offers a benefits package including: Westfield HealthPlan A weekly meal and refreshment allowance Pension arrangements - support staff are entitled to belong to the Local Government Scheme

5 Continuing Professional Development In order to work effectively and efficiently we have a process of annual review and development for all staff. This process intends to assess and recognise performance and formally identifies staff s professional development needs. There is a strong emphasis on continuing professional development and the Academy takes advantage of local, regional, national and international professional development activities as well as providing a comprehensive in house programme which benefits both from the knowledge and expertise of the staff and from other external professionals as appropriate.
