1 Edmonton Catholic Schools is now accepting applications for the position of ELECTRONICS PROJECT SPECIALIST (New position) Edmonton Catholic Schools is a large urban school district whose mission is to provide a Catholic education that inspires students to learn and that prepares them to live fully and to serve God in one another. The District is comprised of over 39,000 students and 3,500 employees in over 89 schools and other sites. The job supports the delivery of electronic services to the District by planning, diagramming, scheduling, conducting on-site inspections, and facilitating and coordinating project participants. The job s main focus is to manage requests from all district sites pertaining to electronic maintenance projects, or modernization projects from start to completion. The job is also responsible for documentation of electronic systems, projects and will assist with the installation and maintenance of electronic systems as required. The job directly supervises project team members including in house staff and private sector contractors. This is a 12 month, Out of Scope, Level 4, full-time position with a salary range of $59,358- $74,209 to commence as soon as possible. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Coordinate and facilitate the activities of multiple electronics system projects concurrently; Coach, train and mentor project team members; assign, delegate and evaluate work of team members to ensure it is completed correctly and within established standards and timelines; Oversee the work of external contractors and service providers to ensure projects are completed correctly and within established standards and timelines; Monitor contractor s progress and prepare records and reports to document and track project cost, schedules, quality assurance tests and materials approvals; prepare documentation and make recommendations. Ensure work is done incompliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation, standard operating procedures and building codes; Monitor and track project budgets, including manpower and materials, to ensure accurate and responsible use of funds within timelines and project estimates; Participate as a member of a project planning and design team; utilize independent judgment and input from team members to develop plans and resources; implement and evaluate projects on completion; Assist in development of preventative maintenance program and assess existing electronic system for modernization; Produce systems documentation and infrastructure diagrams; develop, update and maintain paper and computerized files, record and databases for electronics systems; Identify problems through on-site inspections and determine alternatives for corrective action and present recommendations to supervisor for resolution; Assist with department projects and other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Possession of a valid qualification as a Journeyman Electronic Technician or a graduate in electronics from a technical institute and indenture as an apprentice electronic technician; Several years recent related experience with proven troubleshooting techniques and the ability to work with minimal service information; Supervisory experience is mandatory; Experience with MS word, Excel, Access, Power Point and MS projects; Ability to prepare technical reports related to the equipment serviced; Ability to identify the level of repair required and makes decisions as to the most efficient means of repair; Good communication skills and fluency in the English language-both verbal and written is mandatory; Ability to relate well with other tradesmen, school principals, teachers and general public; A complete job description is shown below.

The job is also responsible for documentation of electronic systems, projects and will assist with the installation and maintenance of electronic systems as required. The job directly supervises unit staff and monitors work of private sector contractors. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Identify the most important end results expected of the job (accountabilities) and how they are achieved. Most jobs are responsible for the delivery of seven to ten key end results. 1. Coordinate and facilitate the activities of multiple electronics system projects concurrently 2. The job provides expertise on project teams in the area of electronic systems. Project problems are generally solved through collaboration with staff, coworkers, or project team members, more complex problems are referred to the supervisor for resolution. Although the work is done within established practices, procedures, technical standards and regulations most problems require the incumbent to make quick on-the-spot decisions. The job has the authority to determine if work is being done outside of OH & S regulations and to issue a stop work order. Budget decisions that vary greatly from projected costs are referred to the supervisor for resolution. Overall, decisions often require innovation and creativity to resolve problems. The job has input into development of project budgets and responsibility for annual internal operational budget of approximately $525,000 plus external budget responsibilities of approximately $500,000. The job is responsible for approx 750 work directives per year, varying in timelines from three hours to year long multi-million dollar projects (varied tasks include electronic maintenance trouble calls to major modernization projects).
