OVERVIEW Destination NSW is a Public Service Executive agency with responsibility for devising and implementing strategies to grow the visitor economy. Our particular focus is on driving tourism and acquiring and developing major sporting and cultural events for Sydney and Regional NSW. In addition, Destination NSW is the major investor in Business Events Sydney with the aim to secure more international conventions, incentive travel reward programs, corporate events and exhibitions for Sydney and Regional NSW. 2 2. PRIMARY PURPOSE OF ROLE Proactively work with Manager, Program Insights and Reporting, the Director, Program Performance and Assessment and the Chief Operating Officer to develop and document procedures and quality control systems for data collection and monitoring of Destination NSW internal operational statistics. To manage and be accountable for the system of Division/Departmental KPI Reporting within Destination NSW and to deliver both standard and ad hoc reporting for use by the Director, COO, Other DNSW Senior Managers, the CEO and DNSW Board. Undertake and/or manage projects and data analysis to deliver the base documents that underpin the Board Reports, DNSW Annual Reports, Business Plans, Operational and Strategic Plans and DNSW reporting to NSW Government including Risk Assessment and other ad hoc requirements. Work with cross functional teams to produce external/statutory Reporting, high quality production documents and be accountable for the data accuracy these reports contain. Undertake and/or assist with Marketing and Event analysis projects as directed by the Manager, Program Insights and Reporting. Act in co-ordination with the Manager and Director to manage external suppliers and stakeholder needs to meet Destination NSW requirements. 3. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES KEY RESULT AREA Research and Analysis Project Management % RESPONSIBILITY Role Specific KPI s 60% Source and locate quantitative and qualitative data relevant to NSW tourism for inclusion in external reporting documents such as Annual Report, Business Plans and other strategic documents as required. Analyse quantitative and qualitative data from a variety of sources and prepare reports for distribution to the Minister, the Board, the CEO, DNSW staff, other Government Departments and the tourism industry. Develop and undertake custom research projects to evaluate marketing and brand campaigns Provide fact sheets, intelligence and insights, PowerPoint presentations for CEO and Senior Destination NSW Management and data for media releases. Be accountable for the delivery of accuate base documents that underpin Board Reports, DNSW Annual Reports, Business Plans, Operational and Strategic Plans and DNSW reporting to NSW Government Gather, analyse data and produce KPI, Insight and Intelligence reporting for use with the Board, CEO and NSW Government that outlines the drivers of Destination NSW performance across all activity spheres 20% Prepare project briefs and manage projects within time and budget in accordance with Destination NSW Project Management Methodology. Undertake independent research projects that require analysis of secondary data or desk research. 3 KEY RESULT AREA Operational and financial management (including reporting). % RESPONSIBILITY Role Specific KPI s 15% Develop and/or contribute to succinct, timely, informative and accurate briefings, papers and corporate reporting requirements. Proactively work with the Manager, Director and the COO to setup and maintain quality control systems to further improve the team s file management system, process documentation, enquiry management, etc. Work with cross functional teams to produce external/statutory Reporting, high quality production documents and be accountable for the data accuracy these reports contain. Be proactive in suggesting areas for improvement in internal processes along with possible solutions. Update and ensure CRM system accurately reflects internal & external customers with whom the position engages. Ensure all physical and electronic business records are stored and maintained in recordkeeping system as mandated by NSW Government. Contribute to the Destination NSW strategic, operational and budgetary planning and management process to achieve corporate and strategic objectives. Ensure tasks undertaken adhere to all policies and procedures, including Occupation Health & Safety operational plan requirements. As a NSW Government agency representative, adhere and comply with all Destination NSW policies and procedures. KEY CHALLENGES Assure the accuracy of relevant data and statistical reports prior to its internal and external release. Evaluate and recommend relevant specialised software and databases to enable reporting. Set up, improve and manage ongoing improvement of the Program Insights and Reporting team s data procedures, general processes and quality control systems. 4 Deliver tourism insights and knowledge to internal and external stakeholders, including the Minister and Industry, enhancing its value and messaging ability by utilising reader-friendly logic and formats continually striving for improvement in this area. Prepare professional and insightful presentations and reports that are clear and engaging in style and manner to stakeholders. Prioritise and manage a range of complex tasks and projects, achieving outcomes while addressing critical turnaround times, priority challenges and changes to the deliverables required. Achieve timely and effective outcomes given the diverse nature of workload. 5. KEY RELATIONSHIPS REPORTS TO o Manager, Program Insights and Reporting DIRECT REPORT/S: o Nil INTERNAL o Visitor Insights and Performance Team o Director, Program Performance and Assessment o Chief Operating Officer o CEO & Senior Management o Communications, Marketing, Partnerships and other Corporate Services teams. o Event Assessment and Reporting Team, Program Insights & Reporting Team EXTERNAL o Liaise with tourism data suppliers such as Tourism Research Australia on data enquiries and issues o Liaise at an appropriate level with various government and industry bodies including Regional Tourism Organisations, Market Research firms, Tourism Research Australia, Tourism Australia, the Australian Bureau of Statistics, other state tourism organisations, other government departments and consultants etc. This is to ensure that communications materials and insights are pitched at the right level for the specific audience. o Represent Destination NSW at conferences, seminars and workshops to share insights on the Visitor Economy and contribute to industry development as directed. 6. DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY DELEGATIONS Financial: N/A INDIVIDUAL DECISION MAKING The position holder has substantial independence in setting daily priorities within broad parameters established in project plans or through discussions with the Manager. 5 Works autonomously on a range of projects and initiatives and undertakes research and analyses information independently. Coordinates and supports the Manager in providing timely and accurate response to day-to-day information and data requirements from internal and external clients, and in the production of standard statistical reports. Manages the program/project either individually or participates within teams, sources information and provides advice on organisational aspects of work in consultation with the client. Expected to identify key issues and resolve potential conflicts at an early stage. IN CONSULTATION DECISION MAKING Makes judgements and recommendations to the Manager on new or more efficient data reporting and analysis processes. Receives advice and guidance from Manager, Director, General Manager, legal team and colleagues concerning policies and procedures. Undertakes research and makes decisions in consultation with Manager, Director, COO, colleagues, partners, research suppliers and other external stakeholders, relating to project needs, progress of projects and provision of advice. 8. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS QUALIFICATIONS Tertiary qualifications in analysis, reporting, tourism, social science or equivalent industry skills and experience. EXPERIENCE Sound experience in undertaking quantitative analysis. Sound experience in the development, analysis & reporting of KPIs and other general analytical results Sound experience in using a variety of databases. Experience in preparing and delivering formal presentations for both internal and external clients. Experience in marketing/brand analysis and research Experience in preparing a range of different style written products (including Briefs, project briefs, factsheets, full reports, summary reports). SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES Ability to set-up and implement quality control systems and data procedures. Ability to source and analyse both qualitative and quantitative data. Well-developed computer skills in a variety of programs including word processing, database and statistical packages. Excellent skills in data manipulation and preparing tables, graphs and charts. Well-developed oral and written communication skills, in order to liaise with clients at senior levels and with other organisations, as well as preparing user-friendly research reports. Excellent presentation skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in working independently and within teams.
