1 Highland Street AmeriCorps Ambassadors of Mentoring Program Program Support Associate Springfield Scholar Athletes About AmeriCorps : AmeriCorps is a national community service program that gives people an opportunity to apply their skills and ideals towards helping others and meeting critical needs in the community. The Highland Street AmeriCorps Ambassadors of Mentoring is an AmeriCorps Program where members serve in mentoring programs across Massachusetts. Organizational Description: Mass Mentoring Partnership (MMP) is fueling the movement to expand empowering youth-adult relationships across Massachusetts. MMP serves hundreds of program partners statewide supporting thousands of youth in quality relationships. We work with mentoring programs and youth development organizations to assess programmatic needs and organizational capacity to provide customized strategies that strengthen youth, families, and communities. Host Site Description: The mission of Scholar Athletes, operating in Boston as Boston Scholar Athletes (BSA) and in Springfield, MA as Springfield Scholar Athletes (SSA), is to reduce the opportunity gap for public high school students by supporting academic achievement through athletics. This focus is based on the proven link between athletic participation and positive academic performance. We offer students safe, dedicated learning centers called Zones, complete with laptops and internet access, where they can study and finish their homework during the school day and after school. We provide tutors from local colleges and full-time, fully-trained Zone Facilitators to provide academic coaching and mentoring. We offer students college guidance and SAT prep classes, opportunities to improve their health and wellness by participating in intramural sports, and scholarships that help students attend college. These collaborative efforts build skills and confidence, shape character, and enhance opportunities for success. For more information about our programming and our young people, please visit Project Description: The Highland Street AmeriCorps Ambassador Program Support Associate will work to support the overall capacity of Scholar Athletes program. They will engage in learning and development administrative assistance, as well as provide direct service to school communities in Springfield. This position provides a unique opportunity to gain non-profit administration experience while still having direct interaction with students. Activities may include tutoring, professional development planning/delivery of training content, athletic programming support, event planning assistance, session research and design support, and more. The Support Associate will be tasked with other administrative responsibilities such as creating recruitment materials and social media postings as well as focusing on volunteer engagement and management. From the opportunity to deliver professional development opportunities for the whole site as well as manage socio-emotional learning and postsecondary supports for our students, the Program Support Associate

2 would gain incomparable institutional knowledge of the service Scholar Athletes provides to the city of Springfield. Program Summary: Twenty-Five AmeriCorps Ambassadors will complete a year of service from August 2016-June These members will be placed at one host site location to build the capacity of youth mentoring programs and organizations in the areas of match support; marketing and mentor recruitment; mentor/mentee/parent training; and program development, evaluation and start up. All Highland Street AmeriCorps Ambassadors of Mentoring will work on volunteer mentor recruitment efforts in their host organization as well as work with other Corps members to complete statewide community service projects that benefit the field of mentoring in Massachusetts. AmeriCorps Ambassadors will be supervised by their host organization and the Mass Mentoring Partnership AmeriCorps Program Manager. Basic Requirements: Direct Service Professional Development Postsecondary Support Program Implementation Tutor & Volunteer Program Up to 30% of the Ambassador s time will be spent in direct service to students. This will take the form of volunteering in Zones to provide academic support/mentoring as well as involvement in intramural programming. Logistical support and coordination Assist in the delivery of training content and planning Curriculum development support Roster and scheduling coordination Practice test coordination and staffing College exposure opportunities research and coordination support Outreach to local colleges and universities for promotional materials Social-emotional learning research and curriculum development support Support development of Scholar-Athlete Support tools for use in academic coaching or caseload management Assist in the creation and implementation of workshops for students Support recruitment efforts by researching and attending recruitment fairs, representing the organization at community events, maintaining volunteer postings and working with the Volunteer and Alumni Engagement Manager (VAEM) to conduct outreach to local colleges and universities Work with Regional Director to manage the onboarding and CORI process with new volunteers

3 Assistance in the placement, training, and management of volunteers Assist Regional Director in managing relationships with partners i.e. any paperwork or timecard processes required for volunteers to fulfill service hours Assist in creating recruitment materials and social media postings in accordance with brand/marketing guidelines and policies Work with the VAEM to create volunteer support materials and resources Additional Skills: Must be able to effectively manage time and meet competing demands Must be able to participate in all program team professional development and organization-wide staff meetings. Proven experience and a track record of success with managing relationships with individuals and organizations Experience as an effective communicator and collaborator with developed skills in writing and speaking Adequate software skills, particularly with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel An ability to compile and analyze data Passion for nonprofit work, particularly in a youth development and health and wellness organization Desire to work on a team and be a creative, constructive and innovative member AmeriCorps Service Requirements: You must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien of the U.S. to be an AmeriCorps member. Complete a minimum of 1,700 hours of documented service to complete host site project Complete all required AmeriCorps documentation and monthly reporting Complete at least 2 collaborative community service projects to benefit the field of mentoring Maintain a service portfolio and blog posts Commute to all corps-wide trainings and events to cultivate future non-profit leaders. (Reimbursements available for qualifying members) o Responsibilities include attending pre-orientation session, orientation, monthly corps meetings, a mid-year retreat and two week-long community service planning sessions Meetings located in Greater Springfield Effectively manage time, projects, and meet competing demands Complete all professional development requirements as part of member contract General Program Qualifications BA/BS strongly preferred or equivalent experience Experience with and/or commitment to youth development
