4 Statement of purpose: The CSS Administrative Staff Mentoring Program provides an opportunity for experienced administrative staff to help and guide less-experienced CSS administrative staff who seek out ways to improve their identified area of needs as part of their individual plan for professional development. Definition: Mentoring is a voluntary professional relationship between a seasoned employee and a less-experienced employee. Regular personal contacts provide an opportunity for the mentor to share experience, insight and professional wisdom, as well as guidance and career information to help participants achieve professional growth. Mentoring conveys advice and guidance that is not readily available in formal training or routine job experience. Benefits: Mentors benefit by reinforcing their own knowledge and experience as they help others, while participants gain increased job proficiency, job satisfaction and increased potential for advancement. However, mentoring does not provide for position change or promotion. Who May Participate: With immediate supervisor s approval, any CSS administrative staff Methods of Delivery: One-on-one Group mentoring (one or more participants by one mentor) Phone conferences or Lync meetings

5 General Rules: Employees interested in participating in the mentoring program will complete an application and give it to the program coordinator. Participants will be asked to select from the list of approved mentors. Interviews will be arranged via Lync between a potential mentor and participants to determine the best possible matches. EXPECTATIONS Mentors should: With immediate supervisor s approval, serve as a resourceful role model for the participant(s) for a minimum of agreed upon hours in a 12-month period [from entry date into program] Demonstrate proficiency and initiative toward the management of their professional development and career Be committed to achieving the objectives of the mentoring program Demonstrate a high degree of patience and cooperativeness in working with others Be able to provide constructive feedback to participants on issues which will impact career development Be tactful, diplomatic, sensitive and empathetic in assisting the participants Participants should: Have an eagerness to learn and a willingness to accept new and more challenging experiences Have a desire to work and improve Minimum requirements for participation: Supervisory approval

6 APPlICATION AND SElECTION PROCESSES Participants will: Submit completed application to immediate supervisor for review and signature Submit application, signed by supervisor, to program coordinator Receive a letter and/or regarding final selection from program coordinator Training: Mentors training and participants orientation will be conducted via Lync Evaluation Follow-up contact with the participants via Lync by program coordinator (to collect data from participants) Quarterly report by coordinator to management using and/or face-to-face Participants complete an end-of-the-year evaluation form and send to program coordinator Annual survey of mentors and participants
