Risks / Challenges The industry faces a critical shortage of skilled operations workers to maintain the existing electric power and gas systems, which will affect PG&E s ability to serve its customers Decline of career and technical education across secondary and post-secondary institutions Over 40% of PG&E employees are or will be eligible for retirement over the next 5 years A Workforce Solution Creates programs and partnerships to train and produce skilled and diverse workers needed by PG&E and the energy & utility industry Enlarges talent pool of qualified, diverse candidates for skilled craft and utility industry jobs through training partnership programs with educational, community-based and government organizations A Positive Story Strengthens community presence, economic vitality and collaboration Assists our local communities through training and job opportunities which increases PG&E s support with key stakeholders Positions PG&E as a leader in workforce development

To create a qualified and diverse pipeline of candidates for PG&E and the industry through public-private collaborations (training programs and outreach efforts) Develop career training programs and outreach by partnering with: Community colleges Universities High schools Public workforce development system Community-based organizations Labor unions Industry-related employers Military installations

4 Snapshot of PowerPathway (training) Programs BUW/Welding Q Q1,Q (Vets only) Welding 2008, and on PowerPathway has trained over 450 students in 18 Signature Programs through Through 2012, nearly 75% of our graduates have been hired into PG&E or industry jobs. The average ethnic diversity of a PowerPathway cohort is 60%. 5 PowerPathway Program Application Process Month 1 Month 2 Month 5-6 Month 7-9 Month Open Enrollment Application Period (1000+ candidates may apply for program) Candidate Screening Process Orientation 200 ppl Assessments 150 ppl Interviews 50 ppl Classes begin Cohort Size 28 ppl Classes Completed/ Graduation Candidate Ongoing Development Marketing and signup for the course will begin 4 5 months before class begins Interested candidates apply through the Course Interest Form on the external PowerPathway website Candidates undergo a series of screening processes, including resume and phone screening Candidates attend an in-person orientation, inperson interviews and assessments (i.e. drug testing, work keys testing) Classes begin Students attend field trips and guest lecture sessions Candidates performance is monitored and case managed throughout duration of classes Graduates take preemployment tests Graduates apply for open positions* Classes completed and PowerPathway certificates are awarded Students are interviewed and offers are made Candidates not yet placed in jobs continue to be case managed and notified of upcoming open positions and additional training programs * Many of PG&E s entry-level skilled craft positions have a desired qualification for completion of PowerPathway programs 5
