Performs a variety of clerical and technical duties including paraprofessional library work; supervises a branch library or coordinates a major function at the main library such as youth services, storytime, class tours, school visits, circulation, customer service, technical processing and performs related work as required. This position is scheduled to work an average of 16 hours per week. You could be assigned to work various shifts during weekdays and weekends. The City's employment benefit package is not extended to hourly part-time positions. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervision Exercised and Received: Provides lead direction to assigned staff and volunteers. Receives general supervision from assigned management and/or supervisory staff. Essential Functions: The essential functions of the classification may include, but are not limited to, the functions below and are subject to changes in operational necessity. Schedules, assigns work to, and oversees part-time and full-time para-professional staff and volunteers; Provides reference and information assistance to library patrons; locates books and other materials; instructs and assists patrons in locating information and materials utilizing a

2 variety of media including the Internet; Interacts with and serves the needs of patrons, provides directional information, renders circulation services, receives complaints related to circulation and determines appropriate action to remedy complaints; oversees circulation function, including cash drawer preparation; Responsible for, participates in and promotes interest in library programs through publicity, bulletin board displays, program brochures, in cooperation with various community groups, and public contacts; speaks before citizen groups, students and other business and civic organizations, conducts library tours and story times; Follows all safety rules and protocols included in the Injury and Illness Prevention Program; takes appropriate action as required to identify and correct safety hazards and report safety concerns to his/her supervisor; Performs required duties under the City's disaster response plan; Determines charges to be made for damaged materials, collects fees and fines; prepares weekly branch deposit(s); Makes recommendations to the librarian for library materials; determines need and orders materials and supplies for branch library; initiates payment vouchers for review; reconciles library books and media accounts; compiles branch statistics and makes branch deposits; May be required to set-up meeting rooms; Surveys library for cleanliness and safety; contacts appropriate departments to correct/resolve issues; and Provides coverage for Circulation Supervisor in their absence or as otherwise needed. Non-essential Functions: Performs other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High school diploma or certified equivalent (GED). Experience: Two years of responsible library clerical and technical experience including lead or supervisory duties. Knowledge of:

3 Thorough knowledge of modern library practices, procedures, terminology, and materials; Office methods and equipment; Current book titles and writers; Standard English usage including spelling, grammar, and punctuation; and, Basic arithmetic. Ability to: Perform difficult library clerical tasks with speed and accuracy; Provide input related to supervision and training of subordinate personnel; Work in a fair, tactful and courteous manner with a multi-cultural public, department and City personnel; Use library computer files and tools to locate information and materials; Multi task between ongoing job functions and interaction with public/patrons; Solve problems in a non-confrontational manner; Follow oral and written directions; Prepare publication-ready written materials for newsletters and brochures; Train and lead subordinate personnel and volunteers in accomplishing program objectives; and, Use appropriate office, library and computer equipment and applications. Licenses/certifications/other requirements: Must be willing to work such hours as are necessary to accomplish the job requirements; travel to various branch locations. Classification requires the possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C California driver s license. 4 Salary and Benefits: The current hourly salary range for this position is $23.11-$ Employment may begin at any step of the salary range, depending upon qualifications.
