1 Scottish Rugby Job Description Job Title: Head of Women s Rugby Team: Performance Rugby Reports to: Director of Rugby Location: Murrayfield Work Pattern: Full-time, permanent. Evening & weekend working Date JD Completed: January 2014 Job Purpose: To plan, develop, and lead the development of the women and girl s game at all levels across Scotland. It is a requirement of this post to ensure a clear consistent message is conveyed internally and externally to emphasise the importance of women s rugby across Scotland and to raise the profile of the women and girls game to clubs, their members and to the wider public domain. Key Accountabilities: Working with the Directors of Scottish Rugby and their respective Heads of Department, ensure that the women and girls game is fully and appropriately supported across all of Scottish Rugby s departmental functions. Associated Competencies: Flexibility Manage all aspects of the women and girl s game, working in effective and well documented partnerships with Clubs, Schools, National and local government, sportscotland, other key stakeholders, and through good stakeholder management secure increased external annual investment for the women and girls game. Team Working To establish, support and manage the Scottish Women s Rugby Advisory Board (SWRAB) to advise the SRU s Board and Council on Policies and strategies that support the health of the game. Team Working Provide regular reports on progress to Scottish Rugby s Directors, Scottish Rugby Council and from time to time the Scottish Rugby Board. To represent Scottish Women s rugby at all external stakeholders meetings including but not limited to 6 Nations Women s sub group, FIRA/AER Women s sub group, sportscotland & Scottish Government. Planning and Organising

2 Work with the relevant Performance and academy staff to develop and implement new initiatives to recruit and expand the pool of new talented players across the women s game. Integrating players where appropriate into the Scottish Rugby Academy ensuring there is an increased focus on improving fitness with greater support for nutrition, strength and conditioning for women potentially selected for the national team, and for girls on the representative player pathway. Lead and support current staff members working on development to achieve introduction of womens sections within top 40 league clubs. Further expand and strengthen relations at club level. Oversee that fixtures for Scotland Women are appropriately managed and are aligned with the relative competitiveness of the team. Undertake additional duties as allocated from time to time by the Director of Rugby

However, the post holder will be expected to have the necessary skills to work with and influence (in line with National strategy) senior management across Scottish rugby and the senior representatives of clubs and schools. No financial responsibility but as above the post holder will be expected to have the necessary skills to work with senior management across Scottish rugby to ensure that appropriate budget is in place to achieve the National strategy. none Office based with frequent requirement to travel throughout Scotland and abroad. Mainly desk based with the addition of driving to and from meetings across Scotland Impact on public image, business success & viability Key Internal and External Contacts: Direct impact on our ability to grow and develop the game Direct impact on our image with Key stakeholders including local and national government, sportscotland, 6 Nations and IRB Scottish Rugby Heads of Departments, e.g. medical, performance, communication and public affairs, central services, clubs and schools, match officials, competitions, performance, facilities and events. Purpose being team-working, reporting, sharing relevant information, plans and developments and ensuring appreciation of Women and girls rugby, that there are no barriers to understanding and acceptance and support are obtained. Scottish Women s Rugby Advisory Board (SWRAB), Rugby Club Committees and school representatives, Scottish Rugby elected representatives including Council, Championship Committee. To provide information and obtain support, sometimes in the face of apathy to the development of women and girls rugby, where, for example there may be no desire to make rugby available to women and girls. Managers involved in the promotion of physical activity for women and girls in Sportscotland, Local Authorities and Government agencies. To promote rugby as an alternative option to increase women and girls participation levels in sport Authorities and Limitations: Post holder contributes to the formation of Scottish rugby strategy and has the authority to plan, implement and manage the agreed strategy across the relevant area of responsibility including setting goals for the women and girls game. Post holder has autonomy to work to agreed strategy following agreed procedures and policy parameters to decide how results can best be achieved. Has freedom to take action based on own interpretation of issues and/or advises line manager on how issues and funding should be taken forward

4 Problem Solving: Working with lead managers resolve staffing or performance issues that arise with direct reports and their interaction with other departments. Usually it is clear in a relatively short timescale whether the solution adopted has been successful. Deciding on the best means of persuading or influencing partners, schools and clubs to support initiatives after analysis of facts or situations using judgment. It usually becomes apparent within a matter of weeks whether this has been successful. Dealing with the male domination of the sport and how to bring an integrated view point to those that have never been part of women and girls rugby.

5 Scottish Rugby Person Specification Factor Essential Desirable Qualifications and Attainments: Knowledge and Experience: Competencies: A degree in an appropriate field for this post. Evidence of having successfully operated in this field for typically 5 8 years. Up to 5 years experience in leading and managing others. Detailed knowledge of Scottish Rugby s strategic plans and objectives and the ability to make these relevant to others. Knowledge of strategic priorities of National & Local Government. Experience of involvement within the strategic planning process Knowledge and experience of sports and rugby development Competence in using office/it applications. Experience in managing budgets, Project Management skills. Presentation skills. Accuracy and attention to detail. Flexibility Facilitating Change Planning and Organising Teamworking Postgraduate qualification Sporting or Rugby Volunteering experience Experience of working through others where no direct line management authority exists
