1 Unit-I What is HRM? HRM is the management of people at work. Human Resources Management refers to the task of managing people belonging to the different section of the society. 2. Definition of HRM. ( FLIPPO) Definies HRM is the planning, Organising, directing and controlling of the procurement, development, compensation, Integration, Maintenance and reproduction of human resources to the end that individual, Organisational and societal objectives are accomplished. 3. What are the characterstics of HRM? *HRM is concerned with managing people at work. * HRM is concerned with employees as individual as individual as wellas groups. It is the task of dealing with human relationship within an organization. 4. What are the objectives of HRM? *To help the organization attain its goals by providing well-trained and well-motivated employees.

What do you mean by human resources? Human resources as a whole consisting of interrelated, inter-dependent and interacting Psychology, Physiological, Sociological and ethical components. 7. What is Personnel Management? Personnel management may be defined as the art of procuring, developing and maintaining competent workforce to achieve organizational goals effectively. 8. UNIT-II What is HRP? *HRP is a process of sticking balance between human resources required in an organization.

4 *HRP is a process by which an organization determines how it should acquire its desired manpower to achieve organizational goals. 2. what are the objectives of HRP? * Ensure adequate supply of manpower as and when required. * Ensure proper use of existing human resources in the organization. 3. What are the need for HRP? * Large number of employee who retire, die, leave organization incapacitated because of physical or mental ailments, need to be replaced by new employee. *Human resource planning is also essential in the face of marked rise in workforce turnover which is unavoidable and even beneficial. * Expansion and diversification programme of an organization 4, What is Job Analysis? Job Analysis refers to the process of collecting information about a job. 5. What is job Description? It is a description of the activities and duties to be performed in a job the relationship of the job with

5 other jobs, the equipment and tools involved, the nature of supervision working condition, hazards of the job and so on. 6. What is Job Specification? Job Specification is a statement of the minimum level of qualifications, skill, physical other abilities, experience, judgement, and attributes required for job effectively. 7. State the importance of HRP HRP Meets the organization need for right type of people in right number at right times. Manpower shortfalls and surplus may be avoided, to a large extent. 8. What is Job Evaluation? Job Evaluation is a comparative process of establishing the value of different jobs in a hierachical order. It allows one to compare jobs by using common criteria to define the relationship of one job to another. 10. What is recruitment? Recruitment is the generating of application or applicants for specific or applicants for specific position to be filled up in the organization. It is a process of searching for and obtaining applicants

6 for jobs so that the right people in right number can be selected. 11. What is internal factors? The internal factors also called endogenous factor that are the factors are the factors within the organization affect recruiting personnel in the organization. UNIT-III What is Training? Training is the process of teaching the new or present employees the basic skills they need to effectively perform their job. 2. Definition of Training? Training is the act of increasing the knowledge and skills of an employee for doing a particular job 3. What are the objectives of Training? * To impart to new entrants the basic knowledge and skills required for efficient performance of definite tasks.

7 * To build up a second line of competent officers and prepare them to occupy more responsible position. 4.what is career planning? Career Planning is the systematic process by which one selects career goals and the path these goals. It means helping the employees to plan their capacities within the context of organization needs. 5. Differentiate between promotion and transfer Promotion take place when an employee move to a position higher than the one for merely occupied. Transfer in the movement of an employees from one job to another without involvinig any change in his status. 6. Write note on Promotion Promotion refers to the upward movement of an employee from one job to another higher one, with increase in salary, status and responsibilities. 7. What do you mean by organization? Which mean a structure of interrelated and initerdependent parts. The parts or component of organization consists of men, machines, materials, methods, money,, function, authority and responsibility.

To enable an employee who has been promoted to understand his responsibilities 9. Differentiate between Training and Development Development is related to the all-round progress of an employee. Training is required skills in their present jobs. Development is related to the all round the progress of executives. Training is essential for operative workers. 10. What is meant by Brain Storming? It is a techniques used to solve a certain important organizational problem. Each individual is free to come out with his ideas. Such an approach makes it possible to look at the problem from different point of view. This may certainly help to find an optimum solution. 11. What is on-the-job Training? On-the-training refers to training given to an employee in the place where he is employed. Work and learn is the philosophy of such a training concept. 12. What is demotion?

9 It is just the opposite of promotion. An employee who has been demoted will move from a higher position to a lower position. Such a measure is adopted when he is found to be incapable of discharging his duties in his present job. UNITIV What do you mean by compensation? Worker exchange their work for compensation. The term compensation is an embracing word that comprises cash payments, which in addition to wage and salary include pensions, bonus and share profit. 2. What is straight Piece Work? Wage payments is made to employees at a uniform rate per unit of production. Wage payment is more appropriate where production is of repetitive character can easily be divided into similar units of production. 3. What is meant by time wage? In the case of time wage, the workers will be paid on the basis of the time spent by them on the job irrespective of quantum of work done. 4. What is meant by piece wage? Under the piece wage method, the workers are paid based on the output produced by them.

10 5.Write note on living wage? It refers to the amount that is required to provide the following for the worker and his family. a. Food, clothing and shelter b. Education and health c. Fulfillment of social needs 6. What do you meant by Incentive? Incentive may be defined as any reward or benefit given to the employee over and above his wage and salary with the view to motivating him to excel in his work. 7. What is Bonus? It has little direct incentive effect because it is usually paid to all workers at the same rate irrespective of their individual efficiency and long after the close of the financial year. UNIT - V 1. What is Discipline? Discipline improves morale and labour relation and promotes co-operation among employees. 2. What is misconduct? Misconduct is a transgression of some established or definite rules and regulation which is prejudicial to the interest of the employee or which is likely to impair the

11 reputation of the employee or create unrest among other employers. 3. What is Negative discipline? It penalities or punishment are used to force workers to obey rules and regulation. The objective is to ensure that employees do not violate the rules and regulation. 4. What is Performance Appraisal? Performance Appraisal is the systematic, periodic and an impartial rating of an employees excellence in matter pertaining to his present job and his potential for a better job. 5.What is positive discipline? This is also called Self imposed Discipline It involves creation of an atmosphere in the organization through rewards, appreciation, incentive payment, promotion, constructive support etc. 5. What is Motivation? Issuing orders and instruction alone may not help to accomplish may task effectively. It is the duty of the manager to encourage healthy competition among the subordinates.
