1 Corporate Services Alumni and Development Supporter Volunteering Officer Full time, fixed term for 3 years To develop and oversee the delivery of an alumni volunteering programme (giving time and expertise) that delivers significant impact on student recruitment and employability across the University, and deepens the relationship between the University and alumni at all levels of seniority. It is essential that you have experience of managing volunteers and a volunteering programme along with experience of creating and/or developing processes and procedures for managing a volunteering programme which should include experience of creating plans, setting targets, metrics and reporting on progress and impact. 2 Job Description Reports to Head of Alumni Engagement Responsible for part-time management of Leeds Network (ADT and Student Careers) Intern Main duties and responsibilities Oversee and manage the delivery of supporter volunteering activity across the University (including the Leeds Network and Faculty-managed alumnistudent mentoring activity) to support strategic priorities for student recruitment and employability, by o working with colleagues across the University to develop and grow activities that deliver greatest impact o creating and embedding new activities that offer strategic benefit o setting objectives, annual targets and milestones and ensuring activity stays on course o reporting on impact through the writing of formal reports and giving presentations Develop, manage and continually review the Supporter Volunteering Plan, set and deliver targets to 2020, reviewing progress at end of baseline year (July 2017) and setting subsequent annual targets for volunteering, including existing and new pilot activities, and metrics for measuring input, output and impact Develop a programme/menu of defined volunteering activities (eg Leaders in Residence / Nurturing Talent, Leeds Network) to support strategic priorities for student recruitment and employability, by working with colleagues across the University and within the Alumni and Development team to focus on activities that o deliver greatest benefit in terms of employability and recruitment o best support the development of relationships between the University and our alumni Create, oversee and take responsibility for the processes with staff across the Alumni and Development Team and wider University (in particular, working with Senior staff in the Student Opportunities Team, Marketing and Recruitment Team and Faculty Employability Co-ordinators) to manage and deliver volunteering activities most effectively, and to report on the impact on student recruitment and employability Pull together examples of good practice across the University, developing a pool of resources, including role descriptions, guidelines for volunteers and volunteer managers, and develop processes to share with other departments Work with the Alumni and Campaign Communications Officers to develop communications across multiple channels to recruit alumni volunteers and demonstrate the positive impact on student recruitment and employability,

3 creating a pool of case studies (written and video) of volunteers and beneficiaries Work with Development Managers to identify volunteering opportunities for particular alumni, liaising with other Faculties and departments to ensure follow up with alumni and provide information for the stewardship of volunteers Work closely with Alumni Relations Officer to o develop and strengthen the university s relationships with prospective supporters o ensure that Volunteering is a key aspect of the overall Alumni Relations and Engagement programme o provide support for developing international and professional networks, chapters and associations, to encourage volunteering activity Develop a plan to recognise and thank volunteers contributions of time and expertise, in consultation with the Stewardship Officer (responsible for philanthropic donations) Brief University staff, students and volunteers (where necessary) on volunteering activity, what is involved, and its impact Any other duties as may reasonably be required, consistent with the grade of the post University Values All staff are expected to operate in line with the University s values and standards, which work as an integral part of our strategy and set out the principles of how we work together. 4 Person Specification Essential Desirable Experience of managing volunteers and a volunteering programme (giving time and expertise) Experience of creating and/or developing processes and procedures for managing volunteering Experience of creating plans, setting targets, metrics and reporting on progress and impact Experience of working to targets and milestones Experience of working with databases and/or CRM systems to manage effective relationship building Excellent written and oral communications skills, working closely with different audiences including senior and leadership, including experience of: o writing formal reports and papers o giving presentations to various audiences The ability to collect, manipulate and draw conclusions from data A deep understanding of what motivates people to volunteer their time and expertise The ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines and to work under pressure The ability to manage and balance different expectations and objectives from volunteers, those managing volunteers, and recipients of time and expertise Strong team player; able to work collaboratively and cooperatively with colleagues across different teams Able to reflect and demonstrate the values of the University of Leeds and the Alumni and Development Team Experience of working in a complex organisation with multiple stakeholders Experience of working personally as a volunteer Experience of working in an alumni relations or fundraising environment Experience of working in Higher Education
