5 Volunteer Management Certificate Program About the program Volunteer Managers often have many roles. The responsibility for volunteer management may be assigned to staff whose primary function lies elsewhere, for example: administrative assistance, fund development, human resources or special event planning. Effective management of volunteers is a crucial element for the success of the 8,000 non-profit organizations in the Edmonton Region half of which are run entirely by volunteers. Many organizations could not function without the generous contributions of their dedicated volunteers. The Volunteer Management Certificate (VMC) program will provide participants with the knowledge, tools and networking opportunities to align their work with the strategic mission and values of their organization. This in turn strengthens capacity within the organization and the non-profit sector to fulfill their mission. Participants will not only be presented with the most current and emerging information that relates to the voluntary sector, but also are given many opportunities for interactive learning. Past participants have noted that the course is an excellent opportunity to develop professional relationships that will support and connect them following this rich learning experience. Students can take individual courses or complete all of the courses and earn the Volunteer Management Certificate. Students working toward the certificate must complete courses VMC101 through VMC110 and the CAPSTONE project, VMC111, which consists of a complete portfolio of a volunteer program.
