1 UNVRSTY OF LNCOLN JOB DSCRPTON JOB TTL SCHOOL Director of Business Development Lincoln nternational Business School LOCATON JOB NUMBR Brayford Campus SB062 GRAD 10 DAT March 2017 RPORTS TO PVC/Director of College CONTXT Located in the beautiful city of Lincoln and well connected to businesses in the area, Lincoln nternational Business School is a growing and ambitious school with an internationally diverse student body and a set of programmes ranked highly in the National Student Survey. The School is investing in research and enterprise seeking to enhance its role as a hub with both local and global connections. The Business School occupies a custom designed building close to the railway station with modern learning spaces for students, a specialist facility for corporate education, and flexible spaces to support collaborative research. JOB PURPOS The Director of Business Development will be responsible for income generation and diversification through identifying and realising opportunities which will be delivered through a wide range of activities including but not limited to: academic consultancy, executive education, accredited short courses, delivery of degree programmes through partner provision, and provision of expert services. n addition, the post holder will be responsible for developing mutually beneficial key strategic partnerships and alliances with stakeholders that will add both financial and reputational value to LBS and the University in general. Reporting to the PVC and Director of LBS this post will develop and implement a coherent and innovative business and community engagement strategy which will deliver tangible outputs. Page 1 of 8

2 KY RSPONSBLTS Business Development This role will take the lead within Lincoln nternational Business School on the management of all strategic and operational business development activities including: : Developing the external B2B marketing and communications strategy in conjunction with LBS Marketing Manager, the University s Research and nterprise and Communications, Development and Marketing Departments. Driving business development and engagement activities to ensure that the school achieves its income and business engagement targets and thus makes a major contribution to the strategic development of the School and the University. Manage and influence internal collaborations with regards to business development. Develop strategies to increase income generation from projects related to executive education, consultancy and research partnerships with business. stablish and lead the business development strategy and B2B marketing services for LBS in order to broker effective relationships with businesses and organisations that meet income generation and business engagement targets. dentify and agree business targets, matching these key areas of expertise and research within the School and client needs in order to develop detailed strategic and operational plans for the delivery of annual income targets for LBS business activities. Lead, develop and contribute to external networks, professional, national or international bodies and high level advisory groups. Develop sustainable partnerships with employers and build external networks to help generate new business, working with external agencies as appropriate, locally, nationally and internationally. Develop and promote the internal profile of LBS business development activities with key internal stakeholders and ensure co-ordination of bids for external funding and collaboration across UoL as appropriate. Maintain and develop existing contracts through effective negotiation and client relations management and oversight of pricing/contracts and relationship management. Work in close consultation with colleagues, stakeholders, clients and partner organisations to deliver an innovative portfolio of products and services which meet client needs, including executive education, consultancy, degree programmes delivered through partner provision, and business engagement. Develop and manage innovative business models which ensures the effective delivery of services to business which may include the development of a network of business service providers inside the University, from other Hs, individual and commercial originations and a strategy to ensure the effective and active engagement of academic colleagues. 3 Liaison and Networking Promote the reputation of the University within the higher education community and wider employer/practitioner community, through various media including publications, contributions to workshops and other external events, conferences and liaison with relevant organisations locally and nationally Lead, develop and contribute to relevant external networks, professional, national or international bodies nteract and collaborate with other internal Schools and Colleges and external institutions and bodies on the establishment of joint projects or to enhance the quality of teaching and learning or other academic endeavour. Managing People and Resources Support the School Management Team in the development and management of the School by taking on appropriate co-ordinating roles such as Programme Leadership. Contribute to the overall management of the School through resource management and business and programme planning in the area of flexible learning provision and employer led programmes. Be responsible for setting standards and monitor progress against agreed criteria for own area of responsibility Provide academic leadership to staff working within areas of responsibility, such as programme areas, or an area of significant academic endeavour such as the teaching and learning agenda or enterprise portfolio. Lead teams within area of responsibility, ensuring that teams within the department work together Resolve issues and conflicts within and between teams to ensure they work effectively Be responsible for quality, audit and other external assessments in own areas of responsibility Be involved in departmental level strategic planning and contribute to wider strategic planning processes in the University n addition to the above, undertake such duties as may reasonably be requested and that are commensurate with the nature and grade of the post. Knowledge of Higher ducation Knowledge and skills in budget management, costing and contracting including an understanding of intellectual property protection. Ability to lead on the creation of successful bids for externally funded projects.
