2 C O R E M O D U L E 2 POST-TRAINING ASSIGNMENT CONGRATULATIONS You have just completed Supervisor/Module 2 - Leadership in the Child Welfare System. In that workshop you spent time exploring: Transformational tasks of leaders: i.e., envisioning future, measuring success and outcomes, inspiring; Transactional tasks of leaders: i.e., setting day-to-day policies and procedures, team building, conflict resolution, performance appraisals; The Five Disciplines: Leaders in learning organizations need to be active in Personal Mastery, Team Learning, Systems Thinking, Vision Focus, and Mental Models; and The use of Strengths-Based Questioning Handout Five Disciplines, distributed during the training, provides a good review of the five disciplines along with approaches and activities that support transformational and transactional leadership in the unit or agency. You also received a handout on strengthsbased questioning. Copies of both are on the CD ROM distributed during the training.. The assignment below is designed to help you take what you learned in training and apply it to your real work in the agency. Research indicates that if you do not immediate apply this material much of what you learned will be forgotten. Therefore, try to carve out some time in the coming week to complete this brief assignment. ASSIGNMENT On the attached worksheet, please respond to the following: 1) Identify one transformational approach that you could implement to make each of the five disciplines more evident in your unit or department. 2) Identify one transactional activity that you could implement to make each of the five disciplines more evident in your unit or department. 3) Schedule a time with your immediate supervisor to review your work.
